Boston’s first three games out west have been quite mediocre, going 1-0-2 in three straight overtime games and their win in extra time only required overtime because they blew a 4-1 lead to Edmonton. Seattle’s in desperate need of some kind of win streak, as a 4-4-2 record over their last 10 now has them seven points back of the West’s final playoff spot.

Puck drop at Climate Pledge Arena is set for 10 p.m. EST, with the Bruins a -140 moneyline favourite as visitors and the over-under at 5.5 on the NHL odds.

Bruins vs. Kraken NHL Betting Odds

The rare 5.5 over-under has come out for several reasons. First off, the Kraken rank 27th this season with 2.75 goals per game and are in the top 10 with 2.84 goals allowed per game. Boston’s fourth in goals allowed with 2.69. And in five Bruins–Kraken meetings in history, four of the five have finished under the total including a 4-1 Kraken win on February 15 at Boston.

Ten of the Bruins last 14 games have finished under the total and the Bruins come into Monday having won just two of their last eight. Boston remains tied for the Eastern Conference lead still, but the Florida’s’ and Toronto’s’ of the East are coming. Seattle’s won four of their last six outings against an Atlantic Division opponent.

Boston Bruins

The Bruins took a 2-0 lead into the final period against NHL-leading Vancouver Saturday, with Jeremy Swayman looking unbeatable in net. And it all came crashing down for Boston with the end result a demoralizing 3-2 overtime loss. The Bruins were outshot 39-22, with Swayman doing all he could to keep Boston in the contest. Swayman’s rightfully starting to see more action in Boston’s crease too.

The past season and a half, the Bruins have famously deployed Swayman and Linus Ullmark as a 1A and 1B goalie tandem. But Ullmark’s got a single win in February and has a worse save percentage mark at .914 (Swayman is at .920). Not committing to one goalie was arguably a downfall for Boston a year ago — will Jim Montgomery go that route again or continue to ride his hotter goalie? The Kraken are probably hoping not.

Seattle Kraken

Seattle’s last two outings paint a strong picture for their entire season. On Thursday, they defeat Vancouver 5-2 on home ice to show they can compete with the big dogs. Then they hot Minnesota Saturday, a massive tilt between two Western Conference clubs jockeying for the final playoff spots, and the Kraken find themselves down 5-1 after 40 minutes.

Joey Daccord got yanked in net Saturday after allowing four goals on 13 shots. Daccord’s emerged as Seattle’s top option in net but is amidst easily his worst month of the season, going 1-3-1 with a .904 save percentage. And with the Kraken not providing much offence to cushion Daccord, it’s a recipe for disaster in Seattle — or rather Ls.
