Blue Jackets vs. Maple Leafs NHL Betting Odds

Tuesday is the first of three regular-season meetings between these teams – the final two (Dec. 27 and March 7) are in Columbus. They didn’t play last season. Thus, the last meeting was Game 5 of the Stanley Cup qualifier series on Aug. 9, 2020 in the bubble. The Blue Jackets won that game in Toronto 3-0 to win the series. Joonas Korpisalo and Frederik Andersen were the goaltenders then. Korpisalo is still with Columbus but won’t play Tuesday as he’s on injured reserve. Andersen is with Carolina now.

Columbus remains without one of its best offensive players in winger Patrik Laine, the former Winnipeg Jet. He has been out since Nov. 3 with an oblique injury. Laine has three goals and seven assists in nine games.

The road team is 6-2 in the past eight meetings. The under is 3-1-1 in the previous five in Toronto.

Columbus Blue Jackets

Columbus snapped a four-game losing streak Sunday with a 6-4 win over visiting San Jose. Adam Boqvist was the No. 1 star with two goals — he has six on the season. The Sharks had leads of 2-1 and 3-2 in the second. Centre Jack Roslovic was a healthy scratch Saturday for the Jackets but scored his fourth goal of the year Sunday. He was the team’s second-leading scorer last season but has struggled this year. Twelve of 18 Columbus skaters earned at least a point Sunday.

For the fourth time in six games, the Blue Jackets had a goal taken off the board by an offside challenge. Elvis Merzlikins stopped 30-of-34 shots and should be back in there for this one. He’s 10-4-0 with a 2.72 goals-against average and .920 save per centage. Merzlikins is the first Blue Jackets goalie with 10 wins in his first 14 decisions. Columbus is 11-26 in its past 37 after a win.

Toronto Maple Leafs

Toronto completed a winless two-game trip with a 6-3 loss at Winnipeg on Sunday in the second of a back-to-back. The Jets blew it open by scoring four times in the first 10:45 of game time in the second period. Michael Bunting (seventh goal of season), Auston Matthews (15th) and Ondrej Kase (sixth) scored for the Leafs. It was the sixth straight game with at least a goal for Matthews.

Defenceman Rasmus Sandin exited in the third period with a lower-body injury. Mitch Marner (21 points) sat again with an undisclosed injury and is day-to-day. Joseph Woll started in net but it should be Jack Campbell (13-4-2, 1.78 GAA, .942 SV) on Tuesday. The Leafs are 7-1 in their past eight vs. the Eastern Conference.
