The San Jose Sharks and Chicago Blackhawks are both in the early stages of franchise rebuilds, so it’s not surprising to see them at the bottom of the NHL standings. There is some positivity, however, as they’re each fresh off a win. The Sharks downed L.A. 4-2 on Tuesday, while the Blackhawks took out Colorado 5-2 on Monday.

Chicago opened as a -175 favourite to win on the NHL odds.

Blackhawks vs. Sharks NHL Betting Odds

San Jose and Chicago have already met once this season. The Blackhawks won 4-2 in their home opener on October 17. Connor Bedard and Teuvo Teravainen each had two assists for the Hawks.

Chicago has lost eight of their last 10 road games, but that could be about to change as they’ve won five straight in San Jose. They’re an even 5-5 against the spread this season, including 3-3 ATS on the road. The Over has hit in four of the Blackhawks’ last six games in San Jose.

It’s clearly been a terrible start to the season for the Sharks, who became the first team in NHL history to lose the first nine games of the season two years in a row. They haven’t been much better as a cover option, going 5-6 ATS overall. One thing you might be able to expect is goals as five of San Jose’s last seven games against Chicago have hit the Over.

Chicago Blackhawks

Chicago came into Colorado on Monday and controlled the game from the start, scoring three goals in the first period before adding two empty-netters in the third. Ryan Donato finished with two goals and an assist, while Philipp Kurashev, Ilya Mikheyev and Lukas Reichel also found the back of the net. Bedard, who leads the team with nine points (3G, 6A), was held off the scoresheet.

There’s been no word on a starting goalie on Thursday, although Petr Mrazek has started eight of the Blackhawks’ 10 games. Mrazek is 3-5-0 with a 3.04 goals-against average and .896 save percentage. Backup Arvid Soderblom is 0-1-1 with a 2.52 GAA and .911 SV.

San Jose Sharks

Jake Walman had his second straight three-point night (1G, 2A) on Tuesday as San Jose won their second game in a row. William Eklund, Tyler Toffoli and Fabian Zetterlund also scored, while Vitek Vanecek stopped 26 of 28 shots faced. Toffoli and Zetterlund share the team lead in goals with six apiece, while Mikael Granlund leads the team with 13 points (5G, 8A).

Vanecek and Mackenzie Blackwood have split starts evenly this season, so it could be Blackwood on Thursday. Blackwood is 1-3-2 with a 3.89 GAA and .888 SV, while Vanecek is 1-4-0 with a 3.65 GAA and .879 SV. Neither goalie has received much support from the rest of the team as the Sharks have allowed the second-most shots in the NHL and they have the fourth-worst goals scored per game average.
