It's the final game before the 4 Nations break for the Oilers and Avalanche as Edmonton looks to capitalize against a Colorado team playing the second half of a back-to-back.

It’s a heavyweight battle in Edmonton on Friday night as two of the top teams in the Western Conference go toe-to-toe. The Oilers sit atop the Pacific Division standings following a 4-3 overtime win against Chicago on Wednesday. The Avs impressed with a 4-2 win in Calgary on Thursday, but they’ll be in tough in a back-to-back spot on Friday.

Edmonton is a -180 favourite to win on the NHL odds, with the total set at 6.5.

Avalanche vs. Oilers NHL Betting Odds

This will be the third and final regular season meeting between the teams. The Oilers took the first two games, both in Denver, outscoring the Avalanche 8-4 overall. If the playoffs started today, this would be a first-round matchup, but depending on how things shake out, these teams could also meet in the Western Conference Final.

Colorado has won four of their last five trips to Edmonton, but it’s the Oilers who have won three of the last four head-to-heads overall. The Oilers should have plenty of confidence on their side after winning 11 of their last 12 games against Western Conference opponents.

Pick your poison because these teams are among the worst cover options in the NHL. Edmonton is 20-34 against the spread this season, tied for the worst mark in the NHL, while the Avalanche are not much better at 22-34 ATS.

Both teams have played the Under in six of their last nine games, but they’re also each top-10 offences in the NHL. The Oilers average 3.30 goals per game, fourth-highest in the league, and Colorado averages 3.21 goals per game, ninth.

Colorado Avalanche

The Mikko Rantanen trade shocked the NHL a couple weeks ago, but it’s clearly paying dividends, which was on full display against Calgary on Thursday. The new top line of Nathan MacKinnon (three assists), Martin Necas (two goals, one assist) and Artturi Lehkonen (one goal) sparked most of the offence, while Cale Makar scored his 20th goal of the season. Necas has made an immediate impact with the Avs, notching eight points (3G, 5A) in his first seven games. MacKinnon also continues to truck with a league-leading 83 points (20G, 63A) on the year.

With regular backup Scott Wedgewood listed as day-to-day due to an upper-body injury, there’s a bit of a question mark in goal. Mackenzie Blackwood stopped 27 of 28 shots faced on Thursday, but with the 4 Nations break coming up, Colorado could probably afford to play him back-to-back nights. If Blackwood doesn’t play, Trent Miner would get just his second career start. Miner allowed three goals on 20 shots faced in his only other start, a loss against Chicago on January 8.

Edmonton Oilers

Zach Hyman scored the OT winner against Chicago on Wednesday, while Leon Draisaitl, Jeff Skinner and Viktor Arvidsson also notched goals. Draisaitl has been the hottest scorer in the league this season, leading the NHL with 38 points. The big German is also second in NHL points with 81 and he is the current favourite for both the Rocket Richard Trophy and the Hart Trophy.

Stuart Skinner is expected to get the start in net on Friday after getting a rest against Chicago. Skinner stopped 20 of 22 shots faced in an overtime win against the Blues on Tuesday, pushing his record to 20-12-4 this season with a 2.68 goals-against average and .902 save percentage.
