The Colorado Avalanche will be heading out on a road trip to take on the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday. Colorado won its first game of the new season but has lost three in a row since, walking in with a record of 1-3-0. Meanwhile, the Lightning split a group of games up and are sitting at 2-2-0 on the year.

Avalanche vs. Lightning NHL Betting Odds

The Avalanche are 0-5 straight up in their last five games played out on the road and just 1-6 overall in their past seven when playing the Lightning. Colorado is also just 1-7 straight up in their last eight contests dating back to last year.

On the other hand, the Lightning are 7-3 straight up in their last 10 games and 6-2 in their last eight when playing in their home stadium. Tampa Bay is also 4-1 against teams in the Western Conference.

Colorado Avalanche

Colorado hasn’t been great, but the last game just looked pitiful. The Avs were thrashed 4-1 by the Florida Panthers with Mikko Rantanen scoring the only goal of the game for them. Outside of that, Colorado has scored three or more goals in every other game with Rantanen picking up a point in each of them so far. Defence is where they have taken a massive step backwards. Philipp Grubauer was snagged by the Seattle Kraken in the offseason via the expansion draft and Darcy Kuemper and Jonas Johannson have split the goaltending duties since then. Kuemper has allowed four or more goals in two of his three games in the net while Johannson allowed three in his lone start. If this group wants to improve, defence is the area that they have to focus on.

Tampa Bay Lightning

Ironically, the Lightning also lost to the Panthers by a score of 4-1 just a few nights ago. They saw their two-game winning streak come to an end. Despite losing Nikita Kucherov to injury again, this offence is still potent. Steven Stamkos already has seven points to lead the team. He has picked up two or more in three out of four games this season as well. Goaltending was expected to be great again but has been off to a rocky start. Andrei Vasilevskiiy has allowed three or more goals in three out of the team’s first four games. Allowing three to the Panthers a few nights ago. Both teams have struggled defensively, so goaltending is going to be very important to watch for each of these squads. Over might be the right play.
