The feature match-up on the NHL schedule for Monday happens in DC between the Caps and Avs. Both of these teams were looked upon at season’s start to challenge, if not win their respective divisions. Who knows, maybe this could be a preview of a championship series played later in June.

Avalanche vs. Capitals Betting Analysis

Head to head the Capitals have won the last three games played against the Avalanche, with two of the three games going over the total. However, two of the three games also needed overtime for Washington to secure the win.

The favourite in this series is 9-2 against the spread in the last 11 games.

Dating back to last season, Colorado is 6-0 in their last six games following a win, and are also 4-0 in their last four Monday games.

The Capitals are 9-4 in their last 13 games versus the Western conference, but are only 4-9 against the Central division. They have struggled on Monday’s, with a 2-5 record on this day in seven tries.

Colorado Avalanche

This game marks the start of the Avalanche’s longest road trip of the season (six games) starting in Washington, DC Monday night.

Everything is turning up well for the Avs as they are a perfect 4-0 (3-1 ATS) mark to start the season. On Saturday they knocked off the Coyotes 3-2 in overtime giving backup goaltender Pavel Francouz his first NHL win in this first career start. He stopped 34-of-36 for the victory. Nazem Kadri scored his first goal and first point as an Avalanche, netting a power-play marker in the first period.

Look for Philipp Grubauer to get the start against his former team. Grubauer is 3-0 this season and has only allowed seven goals against in those three games for a save percentage of .931.

It is no surprise that Nathan McKinnon is off to a great start. He has points in all four games with a goal and five helpers in four games. At the start of the season he was listed at Sports Interaction as a strong candidate at +900 to win the Hart Trophy, and has lived up to that billing.

Washington Capitals

The Capitals snapped a three-game losing streak Saturday with a 4-1 win over the Dallas Stars. It was the team’s first win in Dallas in 24 years.

Defenceman John Carlson scored a goal and added an assist in the victory. He is off to the best start of his NHL career, currently leading all defenceman (and his team) in scoring with two goals and eight assists in six games.

Alex Ovechkin leads all Capitals in goals with four. Last season he captured yet another Rocket Richard Trophy (his eighth) when he potted 51 goals. Evgeny Kuznetsov has a point in all three games since his return from suspension.

The team is still looking for their first win on home ice as they are 0-2 (losses to Hurricanes, Stars) to start the 2019-20 campaign.
