Vikings vs. Eagles Point Spread: NFL Week 5 Odds, Prediction

Both teams have underachieved, by their standards, but both still think they can turn their seasons around with a win in week 5.

Odds makers have penciled the Eagles in as 3-point favourites in this game.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

These two teams have met two times in the last three years with the Eagles winning both games. Both of the Eagles’ wins have been on home soil. They are 8-3 against the spread in their last 11 games at Lincoln Financial Field. The Vikings is 0-1-1 on the road this season, and are 1-5 ATS in the last six meetings in Philadelphia. Also, the under is 4-1 in the last five games in Philadelphia. Of note, the Eagles played well in the month of October last season, going a perfect 5-0 ATS.

Minnesota Vikings

To say it’s been a disappointing season for the Minnesota Vikings is an understatement. In the off-season, many predicted this team to be tops in the NFC North division, and competing for a conference championship. Now, it’s only four games into the season, but fingers are starting to point, and the Vikings team defence seems to be priority number one. They are currently ranked 21st in the NFL in total defence, when last season they were top five in most categories.

The Vikings have allowed an average of 27.5 points per game, massive numbers from an underachieving defence. The good news, despite being 1-2-1 on the season, the offence has been decent under free agent quarterback Kirk Cousins. They rank 12th in total offence, 5th in passing yards (327.2 yards per game), but only 22nd in average points scoring (22.5) – meaning, they have the weapons to move the ball, but don’t seem to be able to put the ball in the end zone more often. The Vikes fell to the Rams on Thursday night (38-31) so they will have extra rest, and extra game planning for the Eagles on Sunday afternoon.

Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles are licking their wounds coming off a 26-23 overtime loss in Nashville, to the Tennessee Titans. It`s a game that got away from the Eagles, according to many as they allowed 10 fourth quarter points against, and needed a Jake Elliott field goal just to get it into the extra frame. The Eagles offensive line has come under attack in the media as the “worst offensive line” in football. That might be a debatable statement, but what isn’t up for debate are the stats.

In the two games that franchise quarterback Carson Wentz has played, he has been sacked nine times, including four last week, and was also hit 11 times versus the Titans. That isn’t good news for the star coming off major knee surgery. Through four games this season, the offence hasn’t scored more than 23 points (tied-26th) in a game, and was 1-of-4 in the red zone against the Titans. Here`s the promising news for the 2-2 Eagles; they have made the post season the last six times after starting the year 2-2, and three out of the last four times they have started the season 2-2 have made it to the conference finals.
