It’s one of the oldest rivalries in sports when these two teams lock up. Washington has surprised many with its performance throughout the first two months of the season, currently holding a 1.5-game lead in the division. While the Giants have been surprising as well, but for all the wrong reasons.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The Giants have won seven of the last 10 meetings with the Redskins. Head-to-head the home team in this series has won five of the last seven games, while the underdog is 4-1 against the spread in the last five games. These numbers definitely favour the Giants. However, the Giants are 1-10 ATS in their last 11 games following a cover in the previous game. This will be the 171th regular season battle between these two franchises.

Washington Redskins

The Redskins are coming off back to back wins at home, and now they travel to New York for only their third road game of the season (1-1 road record). For all the doubters that thought Adrian Peterson was done last season, they have been proven wrong so far. Peterson’s 438 yards this season makes him No. 10 on the league’s rushing list. Maybe the key to the season has been the Redskins defence, which currently ranks fifth in total defence (325.7 yards per game) and third in rushing yards against (87.3 yards per game). They will have their hands full with Saquon Barkley (fourth in league rushing). The Redskins have allowed 17 or fewer points in four of their last six games.

New York Giants

This season has been a fail for the New York Giants organization. At 1-6, a berth to the post season is a dream for a franchise that had major hopes in the pre-season. Now, with the trade deadline looming (Oct. 30), the team has already started to ship a couple players with heavy contracts out the door. Cornerback Eli Apple was the first, traded to the Saints for draft picks, then defensive tackle Damon Harrison was moved to the Lions for a draft pick. T could only be the start of a busy week for the team.

The Giants enter this game on a four-game losing streak, with the most recent loss coming to the Atlanta Falcons on Monday night (23-20). Although it was their sixth loss of the season (in seven games) there are some positives to take out of the game. The Giants had 433 total yards on offence, which is also 100 yards more than the team average this season (337.5). Quarterback Eli Manning had his best passing game of the season with 399 yards and the team had two receivers with 100+ receiving yards (Sterling Sheppard (5-167 yards) and Odell Beckham (8-143 yards). Saquon Barkley has had a very good rookie campaign, but only managed 43 yards on the ground on 14 carries.
