It wasn’t that long ago that the management and coaching staff of the New York Giants was being criticized for being completely clueless when they took quarterback Daniel Jones with the sixth-overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. Nobody is laughing now after Jones delivered a spectacular comeback win in his first NFL start, throwing for 336 yards and totaling four touchdowns in a 32-31 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Washington Redskins at NY Giants

  • NY Giants -118 -3
  • Washington Redskins -102 +3

Washington is just 1-6 straight up in divisional road games over the last three seasons. Now the Redskins will have to travel on a short week looking for some positive motivation following three straight losses to open the season. Washington is 2-5 against the spread over those last seven divisional road games. However, the line for this game has been set at three points, which means they aren’t getting much of a cushion on the point spread.

As shocking as Jones’ comeback win over the Buccaneers was, this stat about the state of the Giants might be even more shocking: New York is 4-11 straight up over its last 15 games at MetLife Stadium. The Giants also went 4-10-1 against the spread in those games. Simply put, Eli Manning struggled to consistently get the job done at home. Now it’s on Jones to reverse that trend as a home favorite in Week 4.

Washington Redskins

It’s difficult to imagine the Redskins looking worse than they did in the opening half of their blowout loss at the hands of the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football. Washington’s defense was constantly caught out of place for big plays and touchdowns. The offense struggled to move the football against a tough Chicago defense, including a Case Keenum interception that was returned for a touchdown. Now the Redskins will have to travel on a short week to face a New York side that is on an absolute high following its win over the Buccaneers.

Washington went 4-4 on the road last season. However, following a 0-3 start to the season in which there weren’t many positives in general, it’s hard to imagine the Redskins going in to the Big Apple and emerging victorious.

New York Giants

While the Giants escaped with a thrilling win over Tampa Bay, it was mostly because they missed a makeable 34-yard field goal to end the game. If Matt Gay had hit that kick, the narrative could be much different heading into Week 4.

While Jones looked great against the Buccaneers, New York lost its franchise running back for an extended period of time as Saquon Barkley is out for at least the next month. Now it’s on the rookie quarterback and a cast of weapons that features wide receiver Sterling Shepard and tight end Evan Engram to carry the offense.

After giving up 28 points in the first half against Tampa Bay, the Giants defense stepped up big time in the second half when they held the Buccaneers to a field goal. Can New York’s back line stand tall again versus Washington? If they can, Jones could get off to a 2-0 start to begin his NFL career.
