NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

It’s quite rare for an NFL team to make the playoffs after starting 0-2, but that possibility is staring the defending NFC East champion Eagles in the face should they lose this game. It’s their home opener but there will be no fans in attendance.

It’s the first meeting between the teams since late in the 2018 season, a 30-23 Eagles victory at the L.A. Memorial Coliseum. Nick Foles started under centre for Philly in place of an injured Carson Wentz and Foles (now with Chicago) threw for 270 yards. The Eagles had three rushing scores. Jared Goff threw for 339 yards for the Rams, but it took him 53 attempts and he had a pick without a TD. Todd Gurley (now with Atlanta) rushed for two scores.

This is the first meeting in Philadelphia between the Rams and Eagles since 2014. Philly is on a six-game straight up and ATS winning streak in the series. The total has gone over in four straight matchups.

Los Angeles Rams

The Rams christened their new $5 billion stadium in L.A. with a 20-17 victory over the Dallas Cowboys in the Sunday night Week 1 game. The Rams were the beneficiaries of a very questionable offensive pass interference call late on Cowboys receiver Michael Gallup. If that’s not called, and it probably shouldn’t have been, the Cowboys are at least in good field goal position to tie if not win.

The Rams were an excellent 9-for-17 on third-down conversions, which led them to dominate time of possession. Malcolm Brown rushed for 79 yards and two scores while largely sharing carries with rookie Cam Akers. Goff threw for 275 yards with a pick. It appears the Rams got out of that one pretty healthy. They are 5-12-1 ATS in their past 18 as underdogs.

Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles were one of the biggest road favourites of Week 1 and jumped out to a 17-0 lead at Washington but then collapsed in the second half and lost 27-17. Wentz was awful after intermission but also was under siege due to a leaky offensive line missing three starters (two done for the year). Wentz was sacked eight times. He threw for 270 yards and two scores but was intercepted twice.

The Eagles played without No. 1 tailback Miles Sanders (hamstring), but he could suit up for this one. Ditto Pro Bowl offensive tackle Lane Johnson, who was out with an ankle injury. Defensive linemen Derek Barnett and Javon Hargrave also sat with injuries. The Eagles are 1-6 ATS in their past seven September games.
