Let’s break down some team props and makes picks for Sunday’s Super Bowl 56 between the favoured Los Angeles Rams against the Cincinnati Bengals from SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. You can check out all of our Super Bowl team props here.

Bettors Love Super Bowl Safety Prop

The Cincinnati Bengals have had to come from behind in all three playoff games this post-season and they are 4.5-point underdogs for Super Bowl 56 on Sunday vs. the Los Angeles Rams – who are playing on their home field at SoFi Stadium but will be the visiting team.

Cincinnati is a +110 underdog to score the first points of the game with Los Angeles a -152 favourite. One might think a team scoring first in a Super Bowl would have a major advantage toward winning. And that the team scoring first Sunday wins the game is -182 with no at +137. No might be the better value as the team scoring first has not won the past two Super Bowls or three of the previous five.

The Rams have scored first in every playoff game thus far, while the Bengals have once. On the last team to score prop, Los Angeles is -132 and Cincinnati -109. No prop up yet on if the last team to score wins, but that has happened in eight straight Super Bowls. The last where it didn’t was SB 47 when the Ravens took a safety in the final seconds to avoid a potential block punt in their end zone. They beat the 49ers 34-31.

What might be the first offensive play Sunday? A run is -145 and pass +115. It has been a pass in five of the past seven Super Bowls. The first scoring play for the Rams is a touchdown of any kind at -195, field goal at +145 and safety at +4700. For the Bengals, it’s touchdown at -170, field goal at +115 and safety at +4600.

Casual bettors likely would be shocked how much money is put on yes there will be a safety in each Super Bowl despite there not being one in the past seven Super Bowls. That there will be one Sunday is +800 with no at -1605.

Expect short touchdowns

For the longest touchdown scored Sunday, the Over/Under is 42.5 yards with both priced -110. History says to go Under because there hasn’t been a scoring play longer than 42.5 yards since Super Bowl 51 when the Patriots rallied past the Falcons in overtime. There was an 82-yard interception return for a TD in that one.

Keep in mind that most kickoffs aren’t returnable these days with the new rules (i.e. they are all touchbacks) so that essentially eliminates that play as a potential long TD. That there is a defensive or special teams touchdown Sunday is +210 with no at -265. That Patriots-Falcons Super Bowl was the last with one.

For the first turnover in the game, an interception is -180, a fumble +185 and zero turnovers +800. Both the Rams’ Matthew Stafford (18 total picks including playoffs) and Bengals’ Joe Burrow (16) have been a bit interception-prone this season. The Rams are -115 favourites to commit the first turnover.

Perhaps our favourite bet, however, is the lowest-scoring quarter and it being the first at +140. Teams tend to play a bit conservative early in the Super Bowl to avoid mistakes and get rid of the nerves. Believe it or not, the first quarter has ended scoreless 14 times and with a 3-0 score 10 times. The second quarter is the long shot on this prop at +630.

Super Bowl 56 Team Prop Predictions

Lowest scoring quarter: first (+140); first turnover interception (-180); first turnover by Rams (-115); no on safety (-1605); Under 42.5 yards as longest score (-110); the last team to score wins (TBA).
