Raiders vs. Chargers Point Spread: NFL Week 4 Odds, Prediction
The Los Angeles Chargers are -3.5 on the NFL odds with a total of 52.5 points.
MNF Point Spread and Betting Analysis
How upside down is the AFC West right now? The Raiders and Denver Broncos are on top of the division at 3-0 and the Los Angeles Chargers second at 2-1. None of them finished with winning records in 2020. Kansas City, still the betting favourite to win the conference title, is at 1-2.
Perhaps expect an overtime game here. For the 10th time ever and first time since 2018, a game has gone to overtime in each of the first three weeks of the season. The Raiders have become the fourth team to win two overtime games within their first three games of a season – and they trailed by two touchdowns in both of them. All three of the Chargers’ games thus far have been decided by six points or fewer.
Last year, these teams split with each winning on the road – both came down to the wire. The one in Los Angeles was 31-26 in favour of the Raiders, who still have a lot of fans in that city from their time there. A Chargers winning touchdown with one second left was reversed by the replay official.
The road team is 4-1 against the spread in the past five meetings.
Las Vegas Raiders
There was some talk entering this season that Coach Jon Gruden wasn’t sold on QB Derek Carr, but he leads the NFL with 1,203 yards passing and is the fourth player in league history with at least 1,200 through his team’s first three games of a season. In fact, dating to Week 16 last season, Carr has thrown for at least 325 yards in five straight games. Only three other QBs have done that.
Las Vegas fell behind visiting Miami 14-0 early on Sunday but would win 31-28 in OT on Daniel Carlson’s 22-yard field goal as time expired. Top Raiders running back Josh Jacobs missed his second game in a row with an injury and Peyton Barber had 111 yards and a TD on 23 carries. He’ll be a popular fantasy football pickup this week. The Raiders are 8-18 ATS in their past 26 following a win.
Los Angeles Chargers
Second-year QB Justin Herbert is proving his 2020 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year season was no fluke. He outplayed MVP favourite Patrick Mahomes in Sunday’s 30-24 upset win in Kansas City as Herbert threw for four touchdowns and no picks. He became the fifth player in the Super Bowl era to record five games with at least three touchdown passes and zero interceptions in his first two seasons. Herbert did injure his hand a bit but is expected to be fine.
Mike Williams had 122 yards receiving and two TDs and is off to a massive start (22 catches, 295 yards, four TDs). New head coach Brandon Staley’s defence has forced six takeaways so far. If L.A. can just cut down on penalties (32 for 243 yards, both NFL highs), this team could be a legitimate contender. The Chargers are 4-0 ATS in their past four vs. the AFC West.
