At the start of this 2017 NFL season, many pundits predicted the Patriots would meet the Raiders in this year’s AFC Championship game. Well, the Patriots have lived up to those expectations, but the Raiders have not.

Point Spread and Betting Analysis

These two teams have met 34 times in the past, including three times in the post season, with the Patriots holding a slim 18-15 record. The last time these two teams met was back in 2014, when the Patriots knocked off the Raiders 16-9. The Patriots enter this game on a five game winning streak and also have a 5-0 ATS record against the last five teams they have faced with losing records. They are also 9-2 ATS in their last 11 games after an ATS win.

Meanwhile, the Raiders are 1-5-1 in their last seven games against a team with a winning record, but 5-0 ATS in their last five games following a bye week.

New England Patriots

The Patriots are flying high heading to Mexico City on a five game winning streak. Overall, the defending Super Bowl champions are 7-2 on the season (5-4 ATS), and are coming off a 41-16 ripping of the Denver Broncos. During the first month of the season, there was plenty of concern with team defence. But during this winning streak, they have only allowed 67 points against, for an average of 13.4 points per game.

Offence has never been a problem for this team all season long, currently ranked 1st with (409.4 yards per game), and 4th in points scored (28.6). No surprise that quarterback Tom Brady is in the conversation for another league MVP trophy as he’s number one in passing yards (2807), T2nd in touchdowns (19), and has thrown just two interceptions all season.

Oakland Raiders

The Raiders enter this game coming off a bye, and are 4-5 on the season (3-5-1 ATS). With seven games remaining on the schedule, now is the time for them to start a winning streak if they have aspirations of another post season appearance. All season long, people have questioned the offence.

Last year, this team was at or near the top five for most of the season, but this year through ten weeks, they have struggled to stay in the top 20 (currently 23rd in total offence). The defence will struggle against Brady and Company, ranked 21st in pass defence (2201 yards), and 20th against the rush.
