Packers vs. Bengals Point Spread: NFL Week 5 Odds, Prediction
The Green Bay Packers continue their tour of the AFC North by visiting the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 5. Green Bay has won three straight games after their atrocious Week 1 effort in New Orleans. Meanwhile, the Bengals improved to 3-1 after coming back from a 14-point deficit against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday Night Football. The Packers look to be the early favourites of this game but Cincinnati has proven they won’t back down for anybody. Which side is the best bet?
The Packers are 3-point favourites to win on the NFL odds, with a total of 51.0.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
Green Bay is 9-1 straight up in their last 10 games when playing against teams with winning records on the season. In that same category against teams with winning records, they are 5-1 ATS in their last six games. The over has hit quite a lot for the Packers lately with it hitting in three of their last four games when they’ve won their previous matchup.
On the other hand, the Bengals are 6-2-1 ATS in their last nine games played at home when coming into the matchup as the underdog. That record completely tanks when talking about playing teams as the underdog straight up, where their record goes to 7-30-1 in their last 38. Luckily, Cincinnati has done well during the month of October, sitting at 3-1 ATS in their past four games during this month. They are hopeful this good luck carries over into this game.
Green Bay Packers
Green Bay just keeps on taking care of business. Aaron Rodgers looks like he’s back in that MVP form from last season as he’s righted the ship after the team’s Week 1 blowout loss. Aaron Jones has helped the offence as well, totalling at least 90 yards in each of his last three games. Jones hasn’t produced to the level he may hoped for in the run game but he still has three touchdowns through the air to balance it out. Davanate Adams is still Rodgers’ favourite target with 45 of them while nobody else has over 20. This Packers defence is a major concern moving forward, after getting hit with multiple injuries. They rank 26th in terms of DVOA, so this won’t help. The Bengals offence isn’t anything to fall asleep on.
Cincinnati Bengals
Nobody seems to realize it but this Cincinnati squad currently leads the AFC North. Since coming back from his horrible knee injury last season, Joe Burrow has been very steady. He has thrown for nine touchdowns in just four games and has linked up with former college teammate Ja’Marr Chase for four scores. The Bengals’ running game has looked sharp all season long as they finally look like they are making Joe Mixon a workhorse back. However, Mixon is currently dealing with a minor ankle sprain that could wind up keeping him out of this contest. If that were the case, Samaje Perine would take over three-down responsibilities. Cincinnati won’t win this game defensively, so Burrow has to lead the way. This is arguably their toughest test of the season and if Cincinnati wins this game, it might be time to start thinking they are for real.
