The NFC’s top seed playing the second seed is kind of a big deal, which is why the league flexed this matchup to the Sunday Night Football time slot.
The Green Bay Packers are 8-2 and the San Francisco 49ers are 9-1. They’ll do battle this Sunday in Santa Clara, and the game winner will be in an excellent position to claim a number 1 or 2 seed in the conference and a first-round playoff bye.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
The Packers come into this one fully healthy after a bye week. Their last game was a 24-16 win at home against the Carolina Panthers. The 49ers are coming off a tight one where they rallied in the fourth quarter to get a 36-30 win against the Arizona Cardinals. The last time these two teams played was last season and the Packers got a 33-30 win at Lambeau.
If any team has an answer to the Packers offense, it’s the 49ers. Arik Armstead, Nick Bosa, DeForest Buckner and Fred Warner could make things very difficult for Green Bay to move the chains. The Pack’s O-line has put the team at 11th in the league for passing offense and 12th place in allowed sacks.
Both teams are 4-1 in their last 5 games but the home team are 3-point favorites in this one.
Green Bay Packers
The Green Bay Packers are currently in first place in the NFC North, having won five of their last six to sit at a comfortable 8-2 on the season. Aaron Rodgers is having a decent season, and has 2718 passing yards so far with a 17:2 touchdown to interception ratio.
In week 10 the Packers won at home against the Carolina Panthers. Rodgers completed 17 of 29 passes for 233 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions, so it was running back Aaron Jones who was the game hero once again as he rushed for 93 yards and got three touchdowns. This season he has run the football 135 times for 589 yards and 11 touchdowns.
The Pack ranks 25th in rushing yards allowed per game and 27th in yards allowed per carry.
San Francisco 49ers
With their close win against the Cardinals in week 11, the 49ers sit at 1st place in the NFC West with a 9-1 record.
Jimmy Garoppolo has thrown for 2,478 yards and 18 touchdowns with 10 interceptions this season. This team has the league’s number 2 rushing offense, and it’s led by Matt Breida, who has run 109 times for 542 yards and 1 touchdown. The 49ers average 149 rushing yards per game and they run the ball just over half of the time for 52.3% of their plays, putting them just behind the Ravens for most rushing plays.
The only disadvantage here for San Francisco is their injury list. Five players are currently sidelined, with Joe Staley, George Kittle, Dee Ford, Deebo Samuel and K’Waun Williams all expected to miss the game.
