The Bears are giving points for the first time in nine years against their hated division rival Green Bay. Chicago looks to continue the Packers’ fall with quarterback Aaron Rodgers out of the picture.

Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The Bears opened as 3-point home favourites but the spread moved quickly up to Bears -5 on the Sports Interaction NFL odds board. The total is set at 38.

Chicago lost at New Orleans and failed to cover as a 7.5-point underdog in Week 8, and enjoyed its bye last weekend. The Bears have been held under 20 points in six of their eight games and the under is 6-2 in their games this season. Green Bay lost to Minnesota in Week 6 when Aaron Rodgers left the game injured and the club dropped its next two games with third-year pro Brett Hundley starting in place of Rodgers. Last weekend’s 30-17 loss to the Detroit Lions dropped the Pack’s ATS record to 3-5 on the campaign.

Green Bay Packers

Head coach Mike McCarthy was asked days after the Rodgers injury if the team would pursue signing a free agent quarterback. McCarthy scoffed at the idea – mainly to sidestep a Colin Kaepernick question – saying he had confidence in the healthy quarterbacks he had on the roster.

Hundley’s first two NFL starts haven’t backed up McCarthy’s statement. The Packers are 0-2 straight up and against the spread and are averaging just 17 points per game without Rodgers.

Chicago Bears

Sunday will be the first game for the Bears since the incident involving tight end Zach Miller against the New Orleans Saints in Week 8. Miller broke his leg and nearly lost the limb because of damage to an artery.

Chicago is hoping the bye week gave rookie quarterback Mitch Trubisky time to reflect on his performance in his four career starts. The Bears covered the spread in three of those four games but it wasn’t like Trubisky was putting up Deshaun Watson-like numbers in any of those games.

Trubisky has just 512 passing yards, three TD tosses and an ugly 47.5 completion percentage heading into Sunday’s game.
