They were sellers at the trade deadline and their head coach was last seen lecturing reporters about their posture in press conferences. They visit a Minnesota Vikings side looking to bounce back from a tough loss.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The Vikings haven’t covered the spread at home since Week 1 and they are coming off a 30-20 loss as 2.5-point home favourites against the New Orleans Saints. The result brings the club’s record to 4-3-1 straight up and against the spread.

Detroit fell 28-14 at Ford Field last Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks. It was the first ATS loss for the Lions since their first game of the season. Matt Stafford and Co. are 3-4 SU and 5-2 ATS on the year.

The two sides split their two games in 2017 but the Lions have covered the spread in three of the last four games against Minnesota. The Under is 7-2 in the last nine games between the Lions and Vikings.

Sports Interaction opened with the Vikings giving 5.5 points but the spread has dropped a point to 4.5. The Over/Under line opened at 50.5 and dropped to 49 by midweek. About 83 percent of bettors are backing the Vikings to cover as 4.5-point favourites while 62 percent think this game will go Over 49 points.

Detroit Lions

Top wide receiver Golden Tate was traded by the Lions to the Philadelphia Eagles on the NFL trade deadline day. Tate led Detroit in receptions in 2016 and 2017, and he was leading the club in catches and receiving yards at the time of the trade.

The Lions still have two serviceable target men in Kenny Golladay and Marvin Jones Jr., but Stafford will miss Tate’s sure hands and crafty moves in the slot.

Minnesota Vikings

Minnesota was a preseason contender to win the Super Bowl after making it to the NFC Championship Game a season ago. But things aren’t coming easy for the Purple People Eaters in 2018. They owned the No. 1 rated total defence last season, but their stopper unit now ranks on the fringe of the top 10.

Adam Thielen is making sure the Vikings season stays on track. The Pro Bowl receiver will break the record for most consecutive games with 100 or more receiving yards if he eclipses the century mark against the Lions on Sunday.
