The winless Detroit Lions are coming off their bye and return to face the Pittsburgh Steelers, who are on a four-game win streak.
The Lions needed it as they’ve had a rough season and are coming off an embarrassing loss 44-6 to the Philadelphia Eagles. Now they travel to face the Pittsburgh Steelers, a squad that barely squeaked past the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football. Nonetheless, Pittsburgh has a four-game winning streak going and will be tough to beat at home.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
Detroit is 5-0 ATS in their last five games when coming into the matchup off of an ATS loss. They are also very good against the spread when getting torched defensively the previous game, with a 4-1 ATS record when allowing their opponents to score over 30 points in the last game out. The under has been very consistent for them, cashing out in five of their last six games overall.
On the other hand, the Steelers are just 1-5 ATS in their last six games played at home and 0-8 ATS in their past eight matchups when coming into the game as the listed favorite. However, Pittsburgh has found a way to put together a 4-1 ATS record during their last five games played in the month of November.
Detroit Lions
The Lions are the worst team in the league by record (0-8) but they probably haven’t been the worst team in the league by other metrics. Outside of a shellacking by the Eagles, they have been able to keep games incredibly competitive this season. They were unlucky to lose games to the Los Angeles Rams, Minnesota Vikings and Baltimore Ravens. They could easily be a three-win team.
Their offensive line has proven to be really solid but their biggest concern heading into the matchup is the lack of any star wide receivers. Even some of the top names that they started the year with have gotten hurt, leaving them with very little depth at the position. D’Andre Swift is likely to get a bulk of the offensive touches as they try to push through a very good Pittsburgh defense. Flipping over, the Lions have a mediocre at best defense. The Steelers offense has been laboring, though, so that should help their cause.
Pittsburgh Steelers
With all of that talent flooding the Pittsburgh offense, it’s surprising that they rank towards the bottom of the league in offensive yards per game. They are 25th in the league in that category and have found minimal success. Rookie running back Najee Harris continues to prove that he is one of the best young players in the game, adding on another touchdown against Chicago. Ben Roethlisberger also had a solid game despite some awful performances earlier in the season that made many question how much he had left in the tank.
Their defense is what is keeping them afloat. They are ranked eighth in the league in points allowed per game. They have playmakers all over that defense and should be too much for Detroit to handle – especially given their lack of star power offensively.
