The Green Bay Packers are featured in prime time once again in the early season as they close out Week 6 on Monday night against the NFC North rival Detroit Lions.

NFL Monday Night Football Point Spread and Betting

Boy, those national TV networks in the United States sure like the Packers. They played Thursday night Week 1 and won in Chicago and then Thursday night again in Week 4 and were upset at home by Philadelphia. The Packers will play again on a Monday in Week 16 at Minnesota. The Lions aren’t featured in prime time very often and in fact this is their only such scheduled game in 2019.

Detroit had a very rare sweep of Green Bay last year, rare because the Lions have just three wins in the state of Wisconsin since 1992. The teams closed the 2018 season at Lambeau Field with both eliminated from the playoffs and the Lions rolled to a 31-0 win. The Packers looked like they were totally disinterested in trailing 21-0 in the second quarter and lost Aaron Rodgers early in that quarter to a concussion. Not sure why he was even playing in the first place. Matthew Stafford threw for 266 yards and two scores for the Lions, who also got a TD pass on a trick play from kicker Matt Prater.

The Lions have covered four straight in the series. The total has gone over in six of the previous seven.

Detroit Lions

Second straight week a team is playing Monday night coming out of a bye week as San Francisco did it in Week 5. The Lions could easily be 4-0. They absolutely should have won Week 1 in Arizona but blew a 24-6 fourth-quarter lead in an eventual tie. In Week 4, Detroit was up 30-27 on an excellent Chiefs team late in the game but allowed a crucial fourth-down conversion that led to the game-winning touchdown run with 20 seconds left. Every Lions game has been decided by four points or fewer. The bye did come at a good time as Detroit played Kansas City without Pro Bowl cornerback Darius Slay (hamstring) and lost safety Quandre Diggs and excellent rookie tight end T.J. Hockenson to injuries in the game. Detroit is 1-4 ATS in its past five vs. the NFC North.

Green Bay Packers

Green Bay retook sole possession of first place in the division with a 34-24 win in Dallas and with Chicago losing to Oakland. Rodgers was relatively quiet vs. the Cowboys but another Aaron, Jones, rushed for 107 yards and a career-high four touchdowns. He also led the team with seven catches for 75 yards – might be the best fantasy football game a tailback will have all year. The Packers’ much improved defence intercepted Dak Prescott three times. Stellar rookie safety Darnell Savage injured his ankle but avoided structural damage. Probably going to miss a few games, though. This is the 27th straight season that Green Bay will play on Monday Night Football. The Pack have won six of their past eight home MNF games. They are 2-5 ATS in their past seven on Monday overall.
