NFL bettors who like betting over totals have a new favourite team. The Arizona Cardinals made a series of bold moves in the offseason to position themselves as possibly one of the most dangerous offences in the league.

No one knows if Kyler Murray and Kliff Kingsbury will work in Phoenix. Win or lose, it won’t be boring. Matt Stafford and the Detroit Lions get the first crack at the new-look Cardinals on Sunday afternoon.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Right or wrong, the Lions are the more proven commodity in this matchup. Oddsmakers are respecting Detroit’s status by listing the club as a 2.5-point road favourite. About 66 percent of Sports Interaction bettors are backing the Lions.

The total has come down a half point from 47.5 to 47 and 77 percent of bettors like the under in this matchup.

Detroit finished last in the NFC North at 6-10 a year ago but covered the spread in nine of its 16 games. Arizona was a league-worst 3-13 and dispatched of head coach Steve Wilks after his first season.

Sports Interaction lists the Cards’ season win total in 2019 at 5.5 (under -143) and makes them a longshot to see the playoffs at +650. Detroit’s outlook isn’t quite as bleak. The Lions win total sits at 6.5 with a bit more action on the over. They are still forecasted to finish last in the NFC North and are +1200 to win the division.

Detroit Lions

The Lions are working in a new offensive game plan after they signed former Seattle Seahawks OC Darrell Bevell. He’s known for a balanced run-pass approach – a concept that better suits second year head coach Matt Patricia’s team philosophy.

Stafford still has one of the biggest arms in the league and should be able to hit targets downfield if he’s given time. The focal point of the offense could be running back Kerryon Johnson. He averaged 5.4 yards per carry and caught 83 percent of his 37 pass targets during his rookie season.

Arizona Cardinals

Kliff Kingsbury didn’t get an NFL job because of his win-loss record as a college coach. He won just 35 of his 75 games during his six-year spell as the head coach at Texas Tech. The Red Raiders routinely finished among the top offences in NCAAF despite inferior talent.

One of Kingsbury’s first acts as head coach was to convince his front office to cut bait on Josh Rosen and draft Oklahoma QB Kyler Murray with the first overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Will the Air Raid offence work with Murray and Kingsbury in the pros? Time will tell.
