It’s a showdown between the league’s premier defence and the highest-scoring offence in the NFL when Patrick Mahomes and the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs host All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey and the Jacksonville Jaguars.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
The Kansas City Chiefs needed some fourth-quarter magic on Monday night to beat the Denver Broncos. Winning a close game on the road on national television is a sure way to catch the public’s eye and shorten a team’s odds to win the Super Bowl too.
Sports Interaction lists K.C. at +320 to win the AFC and +750 to lift the Lombardi Trophy. The Chiefs were as long as +3000 to win the Super Bowl before the start of the season.
Mahomes has guided the Chiefs to a 4-0 start (straight up and against the spread) and the Over is 3-1 in the club’s first four games. Head coach Andy Reid has his squad averaging an NFL-best 36.3 points and the team has covered the spread in 14 of its last 20 regular season games.
Kansas City is making all the headlines in the AFC while the Jacksonville Jaguars are quietly going about their business. The Jags enter this Week 5 matchup with a 3-1 mark (SU and ATS) and they’re coming off a 31-12 smashing of the New York Jets.
Sports Interaction lists the Jaguars behind only the Rams, Patriots and Chiefs to win the Super Bowl at +1100.
Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jags are proving that last year’s appearance in the AFC Championship Game was no fluke. Jacksonville’s menacing defence has all the bite it showed off a year ago and its offence doesn’t seem nearly as reliant on running back Leonard Fournette.
Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs are scoring touchdowns an outrageous 82.4 percent of the time when they get inside the red zone. Only the Cincinnati Bengals are hitting pay dirt at a higher clip after the first four weeks of the 2018 campaign.
Mahomes still hasn’t been picked off in 138 pass attempts this season and he leads all QBs with 14 TD passes this season. He isn’t the only Chief performing at a high level. Kareem Hunt, last year’s NFL leader in rushing yards, picked up 175 total yards and two scores against Denver at Mile High Stadium.
Wideout Sammy Watkins missed Monday’s game because of a hamstring injury and he’s questionable to play against the Jags.
