The New England Patriots have been a juggernaut so far this season and they are huge favourites again to kick off Week 6 when they host the New York Giants on Thursday night.

NFL Thursday Night Football Point Spread and Betting

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady already has a record amount of Super Bowl rings, and if it weren’t for huge upsets by Eli Manning and the New York Giants in Super Bowls XLII and XLVI then Brady would have eight of them instead of six. The Giants’ 17-14 win in XLII in Glendale, Arizona, was one of the biggest playoff upsets in league history because New England was unbeaten. The happiest people on earth after that win other than Giants fans? Members of the 1972 Miami Dolphins, who remained the only team in NFL history to finish unbeaten.

Alas, Manning probably has taken his last snap as a starting quarterback for the Giants, replaced after Week 2 by first-round rookie Daniel Jones, who has shown star potential. It’s possible Manning could find a starting job somewhere next season.

The last regular-season meeting between the teams was in Week 10 of 2015 with the Patriots also unbeaten (8-0) and escaping 27-26 in New Jersey. Stephen Gostkowski hit a 54-yard field goal with one second left. He was put on injured reserve last week by New England due to a hip injury and his season is over.

New York has covered the past five regular-season meetings. The under is 5-2 in the previous seven.

New York Giants

The Giants had been 2-0 under Jones, but he had a bit of a wake-up call in Sunday’s 28-10 loss to the Vikings, who are a very good defensive team. Jones was 21-for-38 for 182 yards with a touchdown and interception. He missed a few wide-open receivers. New York was again without top tailback Saquon Barkley due to injury – not yet clear if he will return this week – and then No. 2 Wayne Gallman left with a concussion. Not likely he’ll play on Thursday. Golden Tate made his season debut off suspension and had three catches for 13 yards. Linebackers Alec Ogletree (hamstring) and Tae Davis (concussion) both sat out. The Giants have covered eight straight games after scoring fewer than 15 points in the previous one.

New England Patriots

New England is the only 5-0 team in the NFL following a 33-7 easy win at Washington on Sunday. Brady was 28 of 42 for 348 yards with three touchdowns and a pick. He passed Brett Favre for third on the all-time passing yardage list and will pass Peyton Manning for second on Thursday barring an early injury. That stellar Patriots defence held Washington to 220 yards and 1-for-11 on third down. It was the fifth straight game that New England hasn’t allowed a TD pass, the first team to do that since the 1988 Cleveland Browns. Receiver Phillip Dorsett left with a hamstring injury and likely won’t play in this one. The Patriots are 4-1 ATS in their past five on Thursday.
