When you think of the Giants vs. 49ers, you think of some of the greats, Montana, Taylor, Parcels, Walsh, Rice, Simms, and the list goes on. This game doesn’t remotely resemble that level of greatness. In a game between two of the worst teams in football, for the first time all season, the 49ers open up as favourites against an opponent.

Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Last time these two teams met was back on October 11, 2015, when the Giants edged the 49ers 30-27. These two franchises have met 39 times since 1952, with the Giants holding a slim 20-19 edge. The Giants are 4-1 ATS in their last five meetings in San Francisco, and are 4-1 ATS in their last five games on grass. Also, the G-Men are 5-0 ATS in their last five road games vs. a team with a losing home record. Finally, the 49ers are 2-9 ATS in their last 11 home games.

New York Giants

1-7 isn’t the record (3-5 ATS) many Giants fans thought there team would be entering week 10 of the NFL season. But setbacks, injuries and poor play has put them in this spot. The most recent loss was this past Sunday, home to the Rams, where the visitors blasted them 51-17. There really isn’t a positive the Giants can take out of this season. The offence is ranked 29th overall (2394 total yards), and on defence 26th overall (3129 total yards). It appears we are seeing the end of the Eli Manning era in New York. At age 36, Manning’s personal stats are diminishing, ranked 18th in yards passing (1820), 23rd in quarterback rating (85.4), and 15th in completion percentage (63.2).

San Francisco 49ers

Where the disappointing season was unexpected for the Giants, it was not for the 49ers. The 49ers enter this game 0-9 on the season (4-5 ATS), coming off a 20-10 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Entering week 10, the question is, does Jimmy G start for the 49ers in this game vs. Giants? The answer, most likely, no. Garoppolo enters his second week with his new team, and Head Coach Kyle Shanahan has been on record saying it’s a week to week decision on when the new pivot will be under center. Expect rookie CJ Beathard to get the start. So far, in limited duty Beathard is 82 of 161 for just under 1000 yards passing, two touchdowns, and four interceptions. The offence has struggled to put points on the board, averaging 15.9 points per game, ranked 30th in this category.
