NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
The Browns were set as 4.5-point favourites at the open last week, but that line has moved all the way up to make the Browns a 7-point chalk. Currently about 65 percent of bettors are backing Cleveland, while two-thirds of the action is on over 45 points.
Washington is 1-4 against the spread (ATS) as underdogs and are leading the NFL in total sacks at 11. Whereas the Browns are 3-1-1 ATS in their last five games as home favourites and are second in the league for rushing yards per game.
Cleveland leads the all-time head-to-head series 33-12-1. They last squared off in 2016.
Washington Football Team
The lack of weapons on this squad’s offence, coupled with their stout defense really limits the appeal in choosing the over for total points. Recently, the under has prevailed 5-2 when Washington is a road dog.
Following a loss the smart money’s been placed on Washington not covering the spread. Records ATS of 2-10 following a straight up defeat, 2-6 after an outing allowing 150-plus yards on the ground, and 2-8 the next week if more than 250-passing yards were given up the previous game underlined this.
Cleveland Browns
The Browns defence is gradually getting healthy and might not have to be that good with Washington’s NFL worst 56.3 pass completion percentage.However, through two weeks Cleveland’s allowed the most passing touchdowns.
Consistency has been an issue for the Browns for quite a while. They’re only 2-6 ATS when they score 30 or more points the previous week and the under is on a 4-0 streak in that same scenario. Negative trends versus the spread also occur in the contest following a win and after an outing where they accumulated 350 or more total yards.
Baker Mayfield and Cleveland’s aerial attack has yet to take off too. Mayfield is completing just 59.7 percent of his passes, while Justin Landry leads the receiving corps with eight grabs for 107 yards so far.
