The Atlanta Falcons and the Dallas Cowboys enter Week 2 after losing in their season opener and worse yet, both losses were demoralizing. The Falcons were blown out at home while the Cowboys lost partially because of poor coaching decisions. Who’ll rebound in Week 2?

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The over is currently 4-1 in the Falcons last five games overall and 5-1 in their last six after allowing their opponent to gain more than 350 total yards in the game prior. Atlanta is also 4-0 against the spread (ATS) in their past four games when coming in as the road underdog. They are 13-3 ATS in their last 16 games in Week 2.

For Dallas, the over is 4-0 in their last four games when playing a team that has a losing record. It is also 4-1 in their last five games when following a straight up loss in the game before. The Cowboys are 6-1 ATS in their past seven games in Week 2 and 6-1 ATS in their last seven when going against a team with a losing record.

Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons didn’t get the result that they wanted in Week 1 against the Seattle Seahawks but that won’t deter them from trying to steal a win in Week 2. Even in a 38-25 loss, they were able to gain some positives from the game. One of those positives was their passing game, as Matt Ryan threw for 450 yards and the offence saw three different receivers surpass the 100-yard mark. It’s actually hard to believe that the Falcons had over 500 yards of offence and still lost at home by double digits. They need to cut down on turnovers (had two in Week 1) and find a way to start better. They were trailing 14-3 after the first and 28-12 entering the fourth. It felt like they were fighting uphill all game.

Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys  need to play overall better football than what they were able to accomplish in their season opener. They have a lot of talent across their entire roster and they need to shake off their first loss and grab a win here in Week 2. Unfortunately, they did lose a number of key starters due to injury such as starting tight end Blake Jarwin and starting linebacker Leighton Vander Esch. Those injuries will hurt this team. Ezekiel Elliott was a bright spot in the Cowboys’ 20-17 loss to the Los Angeles Rams, running for 96 yards on 22 carries with two touchdowns. They will need to continue to feed him the football to take some pressure off Dak Prescott and dominate the time of possession to help their defence out.

Dallas just had a very tepid effort all the way around in the opener. Given how the Falcons secondary was torched in Week 1, the Cowboys should be able to do something similar in Week 2 and then feed Zeke plenty. Look for Dallas to rebound.
