Eagles vs. Jets Point Spread: NFL Pre-Season Week 4 Odds, Prediction
The Jets and Eagles have met in week four of the preseason for well over a decade, and the tradition remains same here in 2019. Both of these teams have a good idea of which players will be playing at the key positions, but special teams and backup spots are still available.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
The Eagles and Jets are both 1-2 in the preseason, and also 1-2 against the spread.
The Eagles lone win was on the road in week 2 of the preseason (at Jacksonville), while the Jets won in Atlanta that same week. Over the last nine preseason games (nine straight seasons) the Eagles have the edge over the Jets winning five of the games. The Eagles are 4-0 against the spread versus the Jets in their last four games.
Over the last three years, all three games have stayed under the number, with the three games averaging 21.6 points scored (combined).
It’s safe to say both teams will leave most of their starters on the sidelines and have checked out of preseason mode – now patiently waiting for the start of week one of the regular season.
Philadelphia Eagles
Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz has not played in the team’s first three preseason games and is not expected to play in the fourth as the team continues to be cautious with the young quarterback.
There’s already been some talk among the Philadelphia media that perhaps Wentz could follow the steps of Andrew Luck (one day) into early retirement. The young Quarterback has already had some early injury problems, but this is pure speculation.
The Eagles have already lost backups Nate Sudfield and Cody Kessler, and have brought in journeyman pivot Josh McCown last week.
The Eagles secondary has been a cause for concern over the last number of years and this year is no different. Defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz was asked about the secondary this week, and he wasn’t ready to name the starters saying “it’s not set in stone.”
New York Jets
With parts of three preseason games under his belt, don’t expect to see Sam Darnold in action during this game. The teams franchise pivot has played well going a combined 17-of-25 for 211 yards and two touchdowns in the three games. This game will be guided by backups and practice roster hopefuls.
With Tight End Chris Herndon set to be suspended for the first four games of the season after violating the NFL’s PED policy, the competition will continue here in week four of the preseason. It appears Ryan Griffin has the inside track on the position.
First-year General Manager Joe Douglas has let the NFL know his team is open for business before the regular season begins in just over a week, “we’ve got the third waiver claim and we plan on using it,” Douglas told the New York media.
