Both of these teams have semi-realistic playoff hopes even though neither is that great. Houston has the good fortune of playing in the AFC South, probably the NFL’s weakest division (the NFC East may have an argument). It may only take a .500 record to win the South.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Miami isn’t going to win the AFC East because the Patriots always do and surely will again as long as Tom Brady stays healthy. A wild-card spot is possible, though. Just two years ago, both of these clubs did play extra football as Houston won the South at 9-7 and Miami was a wild-card team at 10-6. Both fell way off last year in part due to injuries to their starting quarterbacks.

The Texans are 7-1 all-time vs. the Dolphins. The teams haven’t met since October 2015, which was Miami’s lone win: 44-26 at home. The Fins had four offensive touchdowns of at least 50 yards in the first half, which hadn’t happened for any team in decades. Ryan Tannehill had the game of his career in going 18-for-19 with four TDs and a perfect rating.

Miami Dolphins

Ryan Tannehill apparently won’t get another shot at the Texans as he is expected to miss a third straight game. In Week 6 vs. Chicago, Tannehill was oddly scratched with a mystery shoulder injury the morning of the game despite practicing most of the week. It was so strange that the NFL opened an investigation. Brock Osweiler played out of his mind in that upset of the Bears. He was still pretty good Sunday, but the Dolphins lost 32-21 at home to Detroit.

Miami was gashed for 248 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. Detroit had 457 yards total and six scoring drives of at least 63 yards. Osweiler’s top receiver, Albert Wilson, left with a hip injury and is going to be gone a while. He has 26 catches for 391 yards and four scores on the season. Miami is 1-7 ATS in its past eight on the road.

Houston Texans

Houston was a 3.5-point underdog Sunday in Jacksonville but won 20-7. It was the Texans’ fourth straight victory and moved them into sole possession of first in the AFC South. Houston is just the sixth team in the Super Bowl era to win four straight games after starting 0-3. The defence has really picked it up, allowing 36 total points in the past three weeks after 74 the first three.

The Texans turned two Blake Bortles fumbles, oddly on the third play of each half, into 10 points Sunday. QB Deshaun Watson is reportedly dealing with a collapsed lung so he didn’t fly from Houston to Jacksonville – he took a bus. Watson threw for 139 yards and a score. Lamar Miller rushed for a season-high 100 yards and added a TD on 22 carries.
