Sunday night’s matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles comes with ramifications, as the winner may end up in first in the NFC East. The caveat? The winner of this Week 8 game will remain under .500. Regardless, a playoff spot is still up for grabs.

It’s been an ugly year for both clubs, but there’s no denying the 2-4-1 Eagles are in a better and healthier spot then their divisional foe in Dallas.

NFL Week 8 SNF Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Dallas, 2-5, isn’t just mediocre straight up — they’re also 0-7 against the spread (ATS) this season. But with the status of Cowboys’ quarterback Andy Dalton uncertain, a consistent line in this game is difficult to find. Dallas should be the underdog going into Sunday night and if they fail to cover, they will be the first team since the 2003 Oakland Raiders to not cover in all of their first eight contests.

The Cowboys are both 6-4 straight up and ATS in their last 10 against Philadelphia, who is 2-5 ATS this season. Nine of Philly’s last 11 home games have gone under, which should be considered if Dalton can’t go for Dallas.

Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys are not to be trusted until proven otherwise, plain and simple. If 2020 seventh-round pick Ben DiNucci is under centre for Dallas, you can echo the previous sentence. DiNucci came in for a concussed Dalton last week as both quarterbacks combined for 114 passing yards on 22 pass attempts.

Without Dak Prescott under centre and a depleted offensive line, Ezekiel Elliott’s production has predictably dipped in 2020. Elliott posted just 51 yards on 13 touches in Week 7, now ranking 31st in yards per carry at 4.1 yards and first in the NFL with four fumbles.

The slumping Cowboys’ O isn’t getting bailed out either, as Dallas’ defence is 27th in yards against and 20th with just 13 sacks despite some big names on their defensive front.

Philadelphia Eagles

On the other hand, the Eagles’ defensive front has been the bright spot of their season. With 24 sacks Philadelphia ranks fourth in the NFL and it’s helped out a secondary led by Darius Slay that is allowing 220 passing yards an outing, good for seventh in the league.

While Philly’s defence has been solid, their offence has been banged up and struggling. They rank 26th in the NFL with 5.1 yards per play, but reinforcements might be on the way. Left tackle Jason Peters and rookie receiver Jalen Reagor are reported as probable. That could help out Carson Wentz and his 10 interceptions.

In turn Philadelphia is -5 in the turnover ratio, but they are seeing the league’s worst club in that category as Dallas is an atrocious -13.
