It’s officially Super Bowl weekend as we’re down to two teams playing for one trophy.  The Kansas City Chiefs are in the big game for the third time in four season following a 23-20 victory over Cincinnati in the AFC Championship game.  The Eagles steamrolled San Francisco 30-7 in the NFC Championship game as they aim to capture their second Lombardi since 2018.

Sports Interaction has you covered with the latest updates for game odds, injuries and the weather forecast for Sunday.

The betting action favours the Eagles, with about 64 per cent of the money coming in on the birds.  The Chiefs actually opened as 2-point favourites, but early betting took Philadelphia and flipped the line, pushing the number to -1.5-Eagles as of Friday afternoon.

The NFC is ahead 29-27 over the AFC in Super Bowl history.  There have only been seven times when the Super Bowl favourite won the game but didn’t cover the spread, although the Rams did it last year by beating Cincinnati 23-20 as 4.5-point favourites.

Sunday’s total of 51.0 is in a dead heat, with a slim 52 per cent majority of bettors taking the Over.  That’s a slow build from the opening total of 50.0.

The total has been fairly even in Super Bowl history as the last 55 Super Bowls are 27-28 on the Over/Under (Super Bowl I had no posted total).

Injury updates:

Chiefs: Quarterback Patrick Mahomes (ankle) has been a full participant at practice and is expected to be close to top speed on Sunday.  Receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster (knee) has also been a full participant at practice after seeing limited reps in Kansas City’s two playoff games.  Running backs Jerick McKinnon (ankle) and Isiah Pacheco (wrist) were both full participants and are expected to go on Sunday.  Receiver Kadarius Toney (ankle/hamstring) was the only limited participant at practice, but he told reporters he will be ready for the game.

Eagles: Three players were limited at practice this week.  Right tackle Lane Johnson (groin, rest) will require surgery for a torn adductor in the off-season, but he has played through the injury in both of Philadelphia’s playoff games and he is expected to play Sunday.  Backup centre Cam Jurgens (hip/rest) will suit up but won’t see action unless Jason Kelce goes down.  Cornerback Avonte Maddox (toe/rest) has been dealing with a toe injury since the Eagles’ game in Dallas on Christmas Eve and was using a walking boot as a precautionary reason until at least last week, but is expected to play on Sunday.

Weather report:

Sunday is expected to be slightly cooler than the rest of the weekend, but overall it should feel like a comfortable spring day.  The forecast is predicting highs in the 60s (10 to 20 degrees) and only a five per cent chance of rain.
