Betting Action

While the Chiefs are still in the driver seat in the AFC West, they are now chasing the New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers in the conference standings. The good news is that the Chiefs had a bye to reset and now head to New York to face the hapless Giants. Anything short of a dominant performance by Kansas City should raise red flags.

Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The Chiefs opened up as an 11-point favorite in this spot but all of the early action has been on them. According to Sports Interaction’s betting trends, 98% of the early bets have been on the Chiefs. That’s what has pushed the line to -11.5.

The Giants have been mailing it in recently, losing by double digits in three straight games. The Giants are 1-0 ATS this season and 9-6 ATS in their last 15 as a dog of 10 or more.

Kansas City Chiefs

While it might not seem like it on paper, this will be an important test for Kansas City. The Chiefs are in the midst of a rough stretch and they can’t afford a letdown on the road. Losing to a good Pittsburgh team? Understandable. Losing on the road to a rival in Oakland? Acceptable. Losing to a quality Cowboys team in Dallas? That’s fine. But losing to the Giants would shift the perception of this team. They can’t mess around here.

Rookie running back Kareem Hunt will need to pick up the pace after he was held to under 90 rushing yards in four straight games. He has 46 rushing yards or less in three of his last four after topping 81 rushing yards in his first five games.

The bottom line here is that the Giants have quit on their coach and quit on their season. As long as the Chiefs don’t give them life with turnovers or penalties, this should be the perfect spot for them to rebound.

New York Giants

It would be difficult for the Giants to sink any lower than they are now after last week’s loss to San Francisco. While the New York offense has been hit hard by injuries, the defense has been the even bigger concern as it has given up big play after big play over the past few weeks. 49ers receivers were running wide open last week and the secondary was again embarrassed by bad tackling.

The Giants need some kind of positive momentum. Evan Engram and Sterling Shepard have been bright spots on offense, and Eli Manning is coming off one of his best games of the season (although that’s not saying much). For the Giants to make this close, they’ll need that trio to get the team into an early lead, and have the defense cut off Hunt’s running lanes. If that doesn’t happen, though, and their effort is still questionable, this will be a blowout.
