Chargers vs. Raiders Point Spread: NFL Predictions, Week 10 Odds

Just a few years ago, there were no NFL teams in the Los Angeles. The Rams were in St. Louis, the Chargers in San Diego and the Raiders in Oakland. All had designs on moving to City of Angels. The NFL made a deal with the owners of the Rams and Chargers so now there are no pro football teams in St. Louis or San Diego.

It looked like the Raiders might have lost their leverage to get a new stadium built in Oakland with L.A. out of the picture, but instead used Las Vegas as a threat. It’s now reality with the Raiders moving there for next season, so this will be the last Chargers-Raiders matchup in Oakland. The teams will play again Week 16 in Los Angeles.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Last year, the Chargers tied for the AFC lead with 12 regular-season victories and the Raiders were lousy so no surprise that Los Angeles swept the season series with both wins by double digits. It was 20-6 in Oakland with Philip Rivers throwing touchdown passes to Melvin Gordon and Keenan Allen. The Raiders managed only field goals in the first and fourth quarters. Oakland outgained L.A. a whopping 135-6 in the first quarter but only led 3-0.

The favorite is 4-1 ATS in the past five meetings. The under has hit in five straight.

Los Angeles Chargers

Chargers coach Anthony Lynn fired offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt following a fortunate 17-16 win in Chicago in Week 8, and on Sunday the Chargers beat the Packers 26-11 with quarterbacks coach Shane Steichen handling play-calling duties on that side of the ball. There seemed to be a renewed focus on running the ball as L.A. had 159 yards and two scores – both from Gordon – on the ground and dominated time of possession.

The Chargers had been the first team in the Super Bowl era with fewer than 40 yards rushing in four straight games. Michael Badgley kicked four field goals in his first game back from injury. Top linebacker Denzel Perryman left with a right knee injury. The Chargers are 4-0 ATS in their past four Thursday games.

Oakland Raiders

Oakland played its first home game in almost two months Sunday and beat the Lions 31-24. Derek Carr hit Hunter Renfrow on the game-winning 9-yard touchdown pass with 2:04 remaining. Detroit had a chance to win in final seconds on fourth-and-1 at the Oakland 1-yard line, but Matthew Stafford’s pass was incomplete. Rookie of the Year candidate Josh Jacobs rushed for 120 yards and two scores on 28 carries.

The Raiders got a total of four touchdowns from rookies, the first time that has happened for the franchise since the AFL/NFL merger. Right tackle Trent Brown left the game with a knee injury. They are 6-1 ATS in their past seven at home.
