The Carolina Panthers are rolling following back-to-back wins over the Philadelphia Eagles and Baltimore Ravens. Now they will get an opportunity to extend that win streak against an opponent they have dominated in recent years. The Panthers will try to improve on their 5-2 record when they host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday. Carolina has won eight of its last 10 games against Tampa Bay and will be favored to continue that trend when these NFC South rivals meet in Week 9.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The Buccaneers have been one of the hardest teams to bet on this season with a 3-4 ATS record heading in to Week 9. Tampa Bay opened the year with back-to-back wins over the New Orleans Saints and Philadelphia Eagles. Then they lost three straight. After barely beating the Cleveland Browns in Week 7, the Buccaneers stormed back from down 18 points to cover in a 37-34 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals last week. What can we expect from Tampa Bay in Week 9?

Meanwhile, the Panthers own a 4-3 ATS record this season. Carolina is 7-3 ATS in its last 10 meetings with the Buccaneers. The Panthers have failed to cover the spread in four straight matchups with NFC South opponents. So while they have dominated the head-to-head series with Tampa Bay, Carolina has also struggled to cover against divisional opponents dating back to last season.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Buccaneers head coach Dirk Koetter has named Ryan Fitzpatrick his starter for Week 9 after he nearly led the team to a comeback win in Cincnnati last week. Fitzpatrick completed 11-of-15 pass attempts for 194 yards and two touchdowns after Jameis Winston was benched after he threw his fourth interception in the game. Fitzpatrick was outstanding early in the year but struggled once expectations began to rise. It will be very interesting to see how he performs against a Panthers defence that has held the Eagles and Ravens to an average of 19.0 points per game in back-to-back wins. There is a good chance that the pressure will be on Fitzpatrick to make up for the struggles of a defence that ranks dead-last in the NFL with an average of 33.3 points allowed per game this season. Tampa Bay has struggled to slow down opponents since the start of the year and it’s unlikely it will get any better against a Carolina offence that is firing on all cylinders right now.

Carolina Panthers

The Panthers offence has averaged 28.5 points per game in back-to-back wins over Philadelphia and Baltimore. Cam Newton threw for 219 yards and two touchdowns against the Ravens. He also ran for 52 yards and a score. Newton has played some of his best football over the past two weeks. There is no reason to think that he will slow down against this Buccaneers defence at home. Carolina’s defence has also stepped up including three takeaways against Baltimore last week. If the Panthers can force Fitzpatrick in to turning the ball over, this game could get ugly in a hurry. At the very least, the Panthers should have no problem winning and cover the 6.5-point spread at home.
