The Packers are undefeated after two games and the Broncos are still searching for their first win. They clash at Lambeau Field on Sunday for Week 3.
In no way is this a classic rivalry, as Green Bay hosts the Denver Broncos this weekend. However, Denver’s head coach Vic Fangio spent several seasons as Chicago’s defensive coordinator – a defense that had been known to give Aaron Rodgers some trouble from time to time. Can Fangio defy the odds and get a win at Lambeau?
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
Denver Broncos at Green Bay Packers
- Green Bay Packers -110 -7
- Denver Broncos -105 +7
Unsurprisingly, the Packers are 7-point favorite at home this weekend. The Green and Gold have covered the spread in the first two games of the season with wins against the Bears and the Vikings.
The Broncos managed to cover the spread in their game last week against the Bears, but were unable to secure the win. In week 1, Denver was beaten by the Oakland Raiders. The total for Sunday afternoon’s game is only 43, which makes sense considering that neither team has been putting up huge numbers on the scoreboard.
Denver Broncos
In what city have the Broncos never recorded a single win? The answer is Green Bay, Wisconsin. Vic Fangio and his team are hoping they can claim their first victory of the season in a stadium that has never granted them a W. This will be the seventh visit to Lambeau for the Broncos.
Things haven’t been looking too positive for Denver as the season heats up. They’re currently ranked 28th in the league with only 30 total points scored. In fact, they look a lot like the troubled Denver offense that’s been bad for the last two seasons, despite having league veteran Joe Flacco as their new starting quarterback.
Denver will need some of their veterans to start making plays if this team wants out of the basement this year. Neither Von Miller or Bradley Chubb have recorded a single sack in their first two games, but might get a chance at Aaron Rodgers, who’s already been sacked seven times this season.
Green Bay Packers
For the first time in a long time, the Packers defence is something for cheeseheads to be excited about. The team has allowed an NFC-best 9.5 points per game. There are plenty of reasons why this defense is clicking so well, but most of the credit goes to Mike Pettine and the triple threat of Preston Smith, Za’Darius Smith and Adrian Amos.
As any Packers fan will tell you, the most nerve-wracking part of every game are those few seconds when Aaron Rodgers is in the pocket. He tends to hang out there a little longer than anyone is comfortable with, and that makes him vulnerable. His protection could be better, but he has David Bakhtiari and Bryan Bulaga in front to block those pass rushers. They’ll have a challenge in front of them this week when they face Miller and Chubb.
There’s been a super consistent Aaron on the field for the Pack, and it ain’t Rodgers. Aaron Jones has rushed for 116 yards on 23 attempts with a touchdown. Jones seems to be a very effective part of the new Matt LaFleur offense.
