The San Francisco 49ers made a statement with a 31-3 win over the Cleveland Browns on Monday Night Football. If you didn’t believe in them before, it’s time to get on board.

San Francisco improved to 4-0 with a lopsided victory over a Cleveland team that was supposed to be a good measuring stick for where they stand early on this season. Now they’re left as one of two undefeated teams in the NFL along with the New England Patriots.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The 49ers are 4-0 straight up and 3-1 against the spread (ATS) so far this season. Now they will try to do something they haven’t done very much under head coach Kyle Shanahan, which is win against their division. San Francisco is just 2-10 straight up against NFC West opponents under Shanahan. They’re also just 14-29 ATS in their last 33 after playing on Monday Night Football.

Meanwhile, the Rams are coming off a pair of tough losses to fall to 3-2 straight up. However, Los Angeles is still 4-1 against the spread this season. In fact, the Rams are now 6-1 ATS dating back to the end of last season. Los Angeles is also 10-3 straight up against NFC West opponents under head coach Sean McVay.

San Francisco 49ers

With the Seattle Seahawks right behind them at the top of the NFC West standings, the 49ers can’t afford to let off the gas even a little bit right now. The good news is that their defensive line appears to be among the most dominant in the NFL and the offense is finally coming together with a healthy Jimmy Garoppolo at quarterback. Shanahan has shown he wants to run the ball over and over again this season. After registering 275 rushing yards against the Browns, it will be interesting to see if San Francisco can keep it up.

Meanwhile, the 49ers defense sacked Baker Mayfield four times and pressured him on several other plays on Monday night. We’ve seen that Jared Goff really struggles under pressure. With Brandin Cooks possibly out this week, it’ll make the 49ers defense’s job that much easier.

Los Angeles Rams

One week after a shocking loss to Tampa Bay, McVay could only watch as his kicker missed a last second field goal that would have won the game. The result was the Rams falling to 3-2 rather than improving to 4-1. After dropping back-to-back losses, McVay’s group will try to bounce back this week at home. Jared Goff will be the key to LA’s success. Goff threw for 395 yards and a touchdown in last week’s loss to Seattle, but ultimately, he didn’t do enough to win. With Todd Gurley no longer looking like an elite running back, more responsibility will fall on the shoulders of Goff. They need more out of him as he has just seven touchdowns and seven interceptions this season. His QBR is 23rd in the NFL.

Meanwhile, Wade Phillips’ defense also needs a big effort this week in order to help put those last two losses behind them. They’ll be without Clay Matthews (broken jaw), who was one of the team’s best pass rushers.

It’s hard to envision Los Angeles dropping a third straight game. Look for the 49ers to have a bit of a down effort after such a big win in prime time.
