A victory in week five against the 49ers is the only victory the Arizona Cardinals have to brag about this season, as they hope for a second win here in week 8. These two teams have been two of the bigger disappointments in the NFL through the first two months of the season, both with identical 1-6 records.

Oddsmakers at Sports Interaction have this game listed as a Pick ‘em.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

These two teams met a couple weeks ago in San Francisco, with the Cardinals surprising the 49ers 28-18. The Cards led 14-6 going into the fourth quarter, and then piled on two more touchdowns to secure the win. The Cardinals have had the 49ers number as of late, winners of seven straight games against them, and eight of their last nine. The 49ers have played decent on the road against the spread going 5-2 (ATS) against a team with a losing record, and despite the recent straight up record against them are 9-3 ATS in their last 12 meetings in Arizona.

San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers have had a difficult time stopping opponents during their current five game losing streak. During this slide, the team is averaging 33.4 points against. In their most recent game, the Los Angeles Rams put up 39 points against them. Quarterback CJ Beathard continues to try to fill the massive void left by injured quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. Beathard threw for 352 yards against the Cardinals in week five, but also threw two interceptions. Last week against the Rams, he was sacked seven times and was having a hard time moving the offence.

Running back Raheem Mostert carried the ball seven times for 59 yards while starter Mark Breida was banged up. If Breida can’t go this week, Mostert will see most of the work against the Cardinals. Of note, Tight End George Kittle has been a great story for the club this season. He is ranked third among all Tight Ends with 32 catches for 527 yards. Only Zach Ertz (Eagles) and Travis Kelce (Chiefs) have been more productive this season.

Arizona Cardinals

It has been a tough season for the Arizona Cardinals, and this past week may have been the worst of it. Getting embarrassed at home 45-10 at the hands of the Denver Broncos seemed to be the last straw. Gone is offensive coordinator Mike McCoy who lasted a grand total of seven games, and failed to structure any sort of offensive system for the decent offensive talent on the Cardinals. Team Quarterbacks coach, and former NFLer Bryon Leftwich takes over the position and needs to improve this struggling offence. Currently, the team is ranked 32nd in net offence, 32nd in rush offence (452 yards), 31st in points scored (13.1) 31st in passing yards (220.7), just brutal numbers.

Running back David Johnson might be the biggest question mark on the team. A couple years ago the speedy bank rushed for 1239 yards and was looked upon as a top three back. This season, after coming off an injury-riddle 2017 campaign, he has managed just 335 yards on 105 carries, and doesn’t even rank in the top 20 among running backs. During last week’s debacle, rookie quarterback Josh Rosen passed for 194 yards and three interceptions, his top receiver was Christian Kirk with 57 yards receiving.
