49ers vs. Broncos Point Spread: NFL Pre-Season Week 2 Odds, Prediction
The backfield situation is the one most people are monitoring, but the San Francisco 49ers have other areas to keep an eye on as they continue their pre-season schedule Monday night against the host Denver Broncos. Jimmy Garoppolo was the talk of camp this week – and not in a good way, as the veteran quarterback threw five consecutive interceptions in practice. Denver will look to bounce back from last week’s 22-14 setback in Seattle.
NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis
Garoppolo’s unheralded generosity hasn’t impacted the game line, which has remained right where it opened. The Broncos have been one of the better pre-season teams in the league in recent years, having gone 7-3 SU and 6-3-1 ATS in their past 10. But being at Broncos Stadium at Mile High hasn’t agreed with the home team when it comes to the pre-season, with Denver having gone just 4-10-1 ATS in its past 15 exhibition contests in Colorado.
The total for the final game of Week 2 has dipped one point to 41.5; the Broncos come in on three-game preseason under streak after going 6-2 O/U in their previous eight exhibition outings. The 49ers are in a similar situation – they’ve gone 2-4 O/U in their last six pre-season contests following a streak of four consecutive overs. It’s also worth noting that San Francisco managed just 30 total points in its two pre-season road games last season.
San Francisco 49ers
With Jerick McKinnon still dealing with a knee injury, the starting running back gig is now a two-man battle between offseason acquisition Tevin Coleman and incumbent Matt Breida. Look for both players to see work Monday night. The No. 2 quarterback role is also up for grabs, with Nick Mullens expected to see the largest share of action against the Broncos; Mullens has the inside track on the backup role, ahead of the injured C.J. Beathard (thumb).
Denver Broncos
Monday could be a big night for Denver’s rookie tight end. Iowa standout Noah Fant has looked good in training camp and could be a popular target for the Broncos’ quarterbacks – both Monday night and throughout the season, with Denver’s receiving corps banged-up and immersed in uncertainty. Veteran wideout Emmanuel Sanders, who is recovering from offseason ankle surgery, is hoping to see action at some point in the preseason but won’t play Monday.
