In a stark change of pace from recent seasons, the Warriors and Thunder are heading in opposite directions from what each is accustomed to. Golden State needs to rack up wins to remain relevant in the playoff conversation, although they did themselves a favour by defeating the Trail Blazers on Wednesday, 110-106. The Thunder are one of the best teams in the NBA, let alone the Western Conference. That said, the Rockets gave them a dose of reality on the same night, 110-101.

The NBA odds have the host Thunder as -2.5 favourites.

Warriors vs. Thunder NBA Betting Odds

Now is the time for the Warriors to pay back the Thunder if there ever was one. Just a few weeks ago the same teams played a back-to-back set in San Francisco, with OKC claiming both matches, 128-109 and 130-123 in OT. Not only did those wins help the young Thunder find more rhythm in this promising season of theirs, but they altered their fortunes versus the Warriors, who had won seven of the previous eight meetings. The over has cashed in on the last six games.

When a team is 10-11, the easy culprit to point the blame at is inconsistency. To that effect, Golden State’s outright results have alternated between wins and losses for seven games now (4-3) To make matters simple, all four wins were at home and all three defeats were suffered when travelling. These being the Warriors, expectations are typically high, but since they aren’t playing as well as they used to, the team is only 9-12 ATS.

The Thunder are a funny team. When they go cold, they’re freezing. When they’re hot, they shoot the lights out. As such, the over is only 11-9 despite that OKC has the single best three-point shooting efficiency in the NBA at 39.6 per cent – in a three-point shooters league, no less. They’re also the sixth-best attacking unit, scoring 118.8 points a night. The spread is where the fun is at given the 14-6 tally.

Golden State Warriors

Wednesday night the Warriors hosted the meandering Portland Trail Blazers, and for long stretches of the game, it genuinely looked as if the visitors would walk away as victors. Golden State found champions resolve and worked its way out of multiple double-digit deficits to claim a 110-106 win.

The days of the splash bros (Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson) seem like long ago when one looks at another three-point shooting night under 30 per cent (29.4). The hero on this night was substitute Jonathan Kuminga. He mostly sat out the first half but Steve Kerr elected to use him more forcefully in the last two quarters and it paid off. He was a wrecking ball in the key and paint, scoring 13 points and finishing with a team-leading +13-point differential. It’s easy to point at and admire Curry’s 31 points, and he made a few sensational shots, but Kuminga was the difference maker who saved the Warriors’ bacon.

Oklahoma City Thunder

Not all the games are going to be easy. Even when a team rises in the NBA ranks, there are still lessons to be learned. On Wednesday, the Thunder were expertly tamed by the Rockets in Houston, 110-101.

We wrote earlier about the side’s league-leading three-point firing. Well, they only went 27.6 per cent on this night. The Rockets, in contrast, were a brilliant 45.5. We’ve also written recently about how Houston has greatly improved its defence this season and that showed versus the Thunder, who found themselves in situations where the shot attempts were more difficult than usual. The only exception, as per usual, was Shai Gilgeous-Alexander who still mustered 33 points on a fantastic 13-for-18 evening. Is the controversy surrounding Josh Giddey getting to him? Perhaps. He was once again a non-factor, going 3-for-11 and only eight points.
