After multiple Finals runs, they completely missed the playoffs and finished with the second pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. They’ll go up against the Brooklyn Nets in their first regular season game and with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving being members of the Nets roster, this game has added intrigue.

NBA Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The Warriors have gone 2-5 ATS in their last seven games when getting three or more days of rest leading up to the matchup. This number is bound to change as the Warriors will be without Klay Thompson for this contest after his newest injury that will hold him out for the season.

Also, the Warriors have only gone 5-13 ATS in their past 18 matchups against the Nets. The Nets now add on two of the best players that play the game in Durant and Irving while the Warriors are adjusting with a somewhat new cast.

Golden State Warriors

Golden State was looking primed and ready to battle it out for another NBA Championship until Thompson suffered yet another terrible injury during practice. Without him, opposing defenses are going to put an immense amount of pressure on Steph Curry in order to take the ball out of his hands and force others to score. Last year, the Warriors just didn’t have the weapons but do they now? Andrew Wiggins is in his second year in the system, Kelly Oubre Jr. is a nice piece on the wing and James Wiseman was the second pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.

Multiple members of the team’s staff have labeled Wiseman as the future of their team, so we’ll get a look early. He will have one of the hardest assignments out there if the Nets decide to play Durant at the center position this game. That could cause a ton of mismatches for this Warriors team and they will have to be ready for that if they want to win their season opener.

Brooklyn Nets

For the Nets, they should just stick with what has been working in the preseason and place Durant at the five spot. Durant has incredible mobility and is a knockdown shooter from almost anywhere on the court. He also has the length to play good defense down low in the paint.

If the whole Warriors plan is to lock down Durant, then the Nets happen to have another star player in Irving to take the scoring pressure right off of him. These two are going to be a deadly duo this season and they happen to have decent depth outside with Caris LeVert and Joe Harris. Nobody knows if they will be able to stay healthy throughout the course of the season but for this matchup, they have a far better roster and should start the season with a win.
