The Portland Trail Blazers are coming off a 128-105 blowout loss to the Los Angeles Clippers but hope to get back on track on Friday when they visit the Golden State Warriors. Meanwhile, the Warriors were able to defeat the Detroit Pistons in their latest outing, which got them back to .500 on the season. This is going to be an interesting matchup as two of the best point guards in the game will be battling it out for positioning in the Western Conference.

Portland Trail Blazers

Portland has been a mixed bag so far in this young season. They were able to pick up two terrific wins against the Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Lakers while also being blown out by the Denver Nuggets and Clippers. Their offense has been good this year with it functioning primarily around their leader Damian Lillard along with his backcourt running mate C.J. McCollum. However, their defense has still been hurting them even with the additions of Derrick Jones and Robert Covington. They are 22nd in points allowed per game. This unit is certainly going to mesh together nicely as the season progresses, but they are still trying to find their identity right now. The good news is Golden State has been hit-or-miss offensively and if Andrew Wiggins and/or Kelly Oubre Jr. don’t provide support for Curry, the Warriors won’t score much.

Golden State Warriors

It has been a rough road already this season for the Warriors as two of their new additions, Kelly Oubre and Andrew Wiggins, have been terrible from behind the arc. If neither of those guys are able to pick up their shooting percentages soon, teams will just key in on Curry and leave them wide open. Golden State, which is traditionally a great three-point shooting team, is 23rd in three-point field goal percentage right now. At some point, they are going to have to make those open shots in order to win games because Curry can’t do it all himself.

They are also going to need do a better job on the glass in this matchup as Portland has a few big men that can dominate the paint and control the flow of the game. Golden State is 22nd in that regard and can’t afford to give Portland extra opportunities.
