Trail Blazers vs. Raptors NBA Betting Odds

Portland officially started its rebuild over the summer by trading franchise icon and future Hall of Famer Damian Lillard to Milwaukee for Jrue Holiday and draft picks, then flipped Holiday to Boston for Robert Williams, Malcolm Brogdon and more draft picks. Blazers GM Joe Cronin almost surely will flip Brogdon (and maybe Williams) by the trade deadline, too. He did well getting all that he got for Lillard with multiple trades instead of just sending Lillard to Miami like he originally wanted.

The young core is built around a backcourt consisting of rookie No. 3 overall pick Scoot Henderson, Anfernee Simons and Shaedon Sharpe, although Simons is currently out 4-6 weeks with a torn UCL in his right thumb. He averaged 21.1 points last season and had 18 points, four assists and two rebounds in his lone 2023-24 game.

Monday is the first of two regular-season meetings between these teams. Toronto won both last season but trails 33-20 overall and 16-11 at home.

Portland Trail Blazers

Portland is 0-3 following a 126-98 blowout loss in Philadelphia on Sunday, and it’s simply going to be a long season in the Pacific Northwest. Shaedon Sharpe led the Blazers with 20 points against the Sixers, while Jerami Grant had 17 – he likely will be traded sooner rather than later. Grant will be used a lot  more with Anfernee Simons out 4-6 weeks. Grant has scored at least 23 points in four of his last six games against Toronto. In 10 career games against the Raptors while with Phoenix, former No. 1 overall pick Deandre Ayton has recorded a double-double six times, most recently posting 22 points and 13 rebounds in his last matchup against Toronto on Jan. 30, 2023.

Toronto Raptors

Toronto lost the second of a back-to-back on Saturday at home, 114-107 to Philadelphia despite the 76ers playing without All-Star guard James Harden. The points scored were a season high for the Raptors but so were the points allowed. Scottie Barnes played well, shooting 11-of-16 from the field for 24 points with eight rebounds, five assists and two blocks. OG Anunoby was out due to leg cramps and Gary Trent Jr. started in his spot. He finished with 17 points. Rookie Gradey Dick also saw more playing time with no Anunoby and had 16 points in 28 minutes off the bench. Precious Achiuwa was limited to 18 minutes before asking out due to groin tightness. He’s doubtful Monday with Anunoby questionable. Toronto has had at least 25 assists in each game – that’s the Darko Rajakovic effect – and it’s the first time the Raptors have started a season on such a streak. Dennis Schroder has recorded a team-best 27 assists and has had back-to-back double-doubles for only the third time in his 11-year career. Rajakovic was an assistant coach on Trail Blazers assistant coach Scott Brooks’ staff when Brooks was the head coach in Oklahoma City (2014-15). Pascal Siakam enters having posted 20-point performances in seven straight games against Portland.
