Three consecutive losses for the Celtics – two coming in overtime – has kept them second in the East, but they’re now closer to third than they are first. Meanwhile, Portland is fighting to get into the West’s playoff picture, currently tied for the final spot at 31-34.

The Trail Blazers are on game four of a six-game road swing and have two straight wins, the last being when playing at Detroit on Monday. Boston will hit the road for six games after Wednesday.

Tip-off at TD Garden gets started at 7:30 p.m. EST, with the Celtics nearly a double-digit favourite on the NBA odds.

Four overtime time contests have helped, but the over has connected in eight of Boston’s last 11 games. All six of the last six Portland–Boston meetings have finished over the total too. The Celtics are the fourth-highest-scoring team this season with 117.7 points per game, while Damian Lillard has been lifting Portland’s recent totals with stellar offensive play.

The Trail Blazers come into Wednesday having covered in four of their last 12 road games. Boston is 1-4 ATS in their last five overall, but 9-2 in their last 11 Wednesday contests. Portland’s also covered in just three of their last 14 games against Eastern Conference opponents.

Portland Trail Blazers

Damian Lillard continued his red hot pace in Monday’s win at Detroit, leading Portland with 31 points, 13 rebounds, and 12 assists for his third career triple-double. Lillard is coming off a February where he averaged nearly 40 points per game, and is scoring 36.5 a night in March.

This stretch hasn’t yielded a ton of team success, as prior to back-to-back victories on Sunday and Monday the Trail Blazers had lost five of six games in which they allowed 120 points in each defeat. The Celtics possess one of the NBA’s better offences, so even if Lillard continues his pace Portland as a team will need to tighten up on defence as they fight for their playoff life.

Boston Celtics

It was a good thing Jayson Tatum and Al Horford both sat out Monday against Cleveland for load management, because Monday ended up being Boston’s second overtime loss in as many days. Tatum had dropped a team-high 40 points in the first loss, and Jaylen Brown led the Celtics with 32 points, 13 rebounds, and nine assists Monday.

All of Tatum, Horford, and Brown are expected to be in Boston’s starting lineup Wednesday. Tatum and Brown are combining for over 56 points a game this season, and both should be hungry to end a three-game losing streak in front of their home crowd. Boston is 25-9 on home court this season, the fourth-most home victories in the NBA.
