Fairly quietly, the Oklahoma City Thunder have been playing competent basketball over the last few weeks. After starting the year 11-18, they have gone 8-5 in their last 13 contests. On Friday, they’ll see their former head coach, Billy Donovan, when they visit the Chicago Bulls. The Bulls continue to stumble along and are 19-23 on the season – the same record as the Thunder.
Chicago is positioned as -4.5 favourites on the NBA odds, while the over-under is set at 234.

Thunder vs. Bulls NBA Betting Odds

The Thunder have covered five of their last six games and 22 of their last 32 in January. They are 22-10 ATS in their last 32 as an underdog.

Meanwhile, the Bulls are 6-3 ATS in their last nine when at home with a total of 230 or more. However, they are just 3-10 ATS this season when playing teams from the Western Conference.

Oklahoma City Thunder

The Thunder have won three of four and the play of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is a big reason for it. He’s fourth in the NBA in points per game at 31.0 per outing but he’s surpassed that average in the month of January with 31.8. He’s one of the hottest players in the league right now and will be difficult for the Bulls to contain. The Bulls are one of the weaker defensive teams in the league right now and they can’t seem to figure out why. At any rate, the Bulls are allowing opponents to hit 47.6% of their shots from the field, which ranks 22nd in the league.

SGA isn’t doing it alone these days as the young Thunder cast is stepping up. Josh Giddey is scoring 18.1 points per game this month while Jalen Williams has been in double figures in four straight. As a team, they’re seventh in the NBA in points per game, making them a tempting proposition for the over.

Chicago Bulls

The Bulls continue to be an enigma and it’s really looking more and more like they need to blow things up. On paper, they have a lot of nice pieces but as a unit on the court, it’s not working together.

Entering Friday, the Bulls will be riding a two-game losing streak. Normally, that type of stretch is not a major concern but they lost by three to the Washington Wizards and by eight to the Boston Celtics. The bigger problem seems to be an offense that’s lost any semblance of cohesion. They failed to hit the 100-point mark in each contest. This could be a spot where they rebound, though, as the Thunder allow the eighth-most points per game in the NBA.

It’s always tough to know what we’ll get from the Bulls, so betting the over might make more sense in this spot.
