The Suns picked up a win on the NBA’s opening night, defeating Golden State 108-104 behind Devin Booker’s 32-point night. The Lakers drew a tougher matchup on their opening night, travelling to the defending champion Denver Nuggets and falling 119-107.

Both clubs made it to at least the second round of the post-season a year ago, and still come into 2023–24 with those same goals and more. Phoenix currently has the fourth-best odds to win the NBA title at +650 while L.A. has the fifth-best at +1300 on the NBA odds.

Tip-off at Crypto.com Arena Thursday gets started at 10 p.m. EDT.

Suns vs. Lakers NBA Betting Odds

Home-away splits was a key area to consider when it came to the Suns and Lakers performances last season. Phoenix finished fourth in the West last year but won 17 of their 41 road games, while L.A. was sub .500 on the road but five games over .500 at home. L.A.’s won nine of their last 11 home games dating back to last season too.

Last season when Phoenix and the Lakers met, the home team went 4-0 and won by double digits each time. The Suns are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 battles with the Lakers and have covered in four of their last six trips to go play the Lakers.

Phoenix Suns

Bradley Beal’s Suns debut is still yet to come after missing his new team’s season opener Tuesday with back tightness. Beal was easily the Suns’ biggest acquisition in a busy off-season that included the departures of DeAndre Ayton, Chris Paul, Cameron Payne, and head coach Monty Williams.

Frank Vogel’s now the new man in charge and in his first game as Phoenix’s head coach he let Devin Booker and Kevin Durant see 37 minutes each of floor time. The star duo didn’t disappoint too with Booker’s 32 points leading all scorers and Durant picking up a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. New starting centre Jusuf Nurkic had an impactful Suns debut with 14 points and 14 rebounds.

Los Angeles Lakers

Fresh off a Western Conference Final berth last season, the Lakers seemed to finally find the right mix of players and it resulted in an off-season in which retaining this group was the main focus. Anthony Davis, Austin Reaves, D’Angelo Russell, Rui Hachimura, and Jarred Vanderbilt all signed off-season extensions with the first three all beginning in L.A.’s starting lineup. LeBron James and free agent addition Taurean Prince make up the Lakers’ starting five.

The offensive firepower is right with the best of the league (L.A. finished sixth in points last season) but being able to slow down the top Western teams is what’s really going to get the Lakers over the hump. L.A. finished 20th in points allowed last season and opened this year allowing 119 points to Denver.
