Just when it seemed as though things couldn’t get any worse for the Golden State Warriors, it did. Not only have they started 1-3 and been blown out badly in their three losses, star guard Stephen Curry now has a broken hand and will be out for the foreseeable future. Now it’s come to a point where the Warriors are a seven-point underdog at home on Friday night – something that would have been unthinkable over the last five seasons. The San Antonio Spurs will be in the second half of a back-to-back situation, but can Golden State take advantage or are they in line for another blowout loss?

NBA Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The Spurs lost 103-97 to the Clippers on Thursday night as Kawhi Leonard got some revenge. Although it was the Spurs first loss of the season, they’ve actually failed to cover the spread in every single game (0-4 ATS). The Spurs are 37-17-1 ATS in their last 55 Friday night games.

Meanwhile, Golden State is already 0-2 at home both straight up and against the spread this season. For all of the hype heading into the debut of their new arena, this has to crush Warriors fans. Golden State is just 1-6-1 against the spread in its last eight games overall dating back to last season.

San Antonio Spurs

San Antonio will need to start this game hot in order to avoid getting hit by fatigue as the game continues on. The Spurs have a major edge in talent with Curry and Klay Thompson both unavailable for the Warriors. Still, they will need to find a way to outwork them in order to get the job done on the road in their second game in as many nights.

The Warriors are ripe for the picking right now as they’ve been getting smoked by teams like the Phoenix Suns and Oklahoma City Thunder. The Spurs are better than those two squads, so as long as they’re not sleepy here, this should be a straightforward win.

DeMar DeRozan has picked up where he left off last season as the team’s leading scorer. LaMarcus Aldridge, who isn’t getting any younger, will need to prove he can rise to the occasion on back-to-back nights. If Curry was healthy, this might have been a difficult matchup for San Antonio. However, with Curry out, the Spurs should roll to a lopsided victory.

Golden State Warriors

The biggest challenge now for Golden State is figuring out a way to turn this season into a positive. The good news is that they will have Curry, Thompson, Green and Russell in their lineup next season. And by then, hopefully some of the young guys like Eric Paschall, Jordan Poole and Marquese Chriss have developed some. However, the present is very ugly for this team.

Paschall is coming off a game where he scored a team-high 20 points in 38 minutes in Wednesday’s loss to the Suns. Meanwhile, Willie Cauley-Stein had 12 points and five rebounds in his Warriors debut. This is a really tough spot for Golden State, who had chemistry issues with all of the changes before. Now, without Curry, they could be among the worst teams in the league.
