A five-game winning streak has the Memphis Grizzlies positioned as the best of a bad bunch as they welcome the Houston Rockets to FedExForum on Tuesday night.

The Grizzlies are still four games under .500 heading into this one, but that’s good enough for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Houston, meanwhile, has its sights set on the No. 2 seed after obliterating the Minnesota Timberwolves 139-109 last time out.

NBA Point Spread and Betting Analysis

Oddsmakers aren’t buying the Grizzlies’ recent hot streak, making the home team a sizeable underdog for Tuesday’s date with the Rockets. But that shouldn’t deter spread bettors, with Memphis having gone 3-1 ATS in its last four games as a home ‘dog. And it just so happens that Houston has had plenty of problems converting the cover when favoured on the road, going just 3-6 ATS in its last nine with three consecutive non-covers.

This game carries one of the highest totals of the new year at a whopping 238 – and that still might not be high enough to dissuade Over bettors. Memphis has gone above the number in each of its last six games as a FedExForum underdog, with the last two games in that situation producing an average of 257.5 total points. But it’s also worth noting that these teams have converted the Under in eight of their previous 12 encounters overall.

Houston Rockets

Are we due for a James Harden breakout? It certainly feels like it, with the NBA’s leading scorer having been strangely quiet – at least by his standards – in back-to-back games. His 49 total points scored in a one-sided loss to Oklahoma City and a rout of Minnesota are the fewest he’s had in a two-game span since the opening two contests of the season – but he has already blasted the Grizzlies this season, pouring in 44 points in a 107-100 win on Nov. 4.

Memphis Grizzlies

The Grizzlies would love nothing more than to avenge their earlier loss to the Rockets – but to do so, they’ll need to be a whole lot better from beyond the arc. Memphis made just three of its 25 attempts from 3-point range in the loss. And with the Rockets making 17 3s on an insane 50 attempts in that one, the long-range game was the deciding factor. Memphis is decent from deep for the season, ranking 11th in the league at 36 percent.
