Pistons vs. Raptors NBA Betting Odds

Saturday is the first of three meetings this season between the teams with Detroit returning to Toronto on March 3. By then, the Pistons will long have been eliminated from playoff contention no doubt.

The Pistons were terrible last season, which helped earn them the No. 1 overall pick in the draft, but they were 3-0 vs. the Raptors – winning by an average score of 121.0-107.0. Current Detroit leading scorer Jerami Grant played in two of the three and averaged 15.0 points. Saddiq Bey put up 18.0 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. Fred VanVleet averaged 17.0 points and Pascal Siakam 13.5.

Detroit is still led by former Raptors coach Dwane Casey, although he might not make it through the season. Ownership is well aware this team is in full rebuild mode, but the club hasn’t been competitive most nights despite having No. 1 overall pick Cade Cunningham. Thus, Casey is on shaky ground.

Toronto is 4-6 straight up and against the spread in the past 10 meetings.

Detroit Pistons

This is the second of a back-to-back for the Pistons as they were in Cleveland on Friday – Detroit is 0-1 in the second of a B2B so far this year. Cade Cunningham should play obviously barring injury Friday. He missed the entire pre-season and the first few games of the regular season with an ankle issue and originally the plan was to sit him in one half of a B2B but apparently that’s over. The former Oklahoma State star has really struggled shooting in the early going. He was the first player the Pistons chose No. 1 overall since future Hall of Famer Bob Lanier in 1970.

Jerami Grant remains Detroit’s leading scorer and best player, but he could be traded on a good contract because the Pistons won’t be good before that deal ends after next season. Detroit may lead the NBA in Canadians in Kelly Olynyk, Trey Lyles and Corey Joseph. However, Olynyk injured his knee Wednesday and will miss 4-6 weeks. The Toronto native was averaging 12.5 points and 5.3 rebounds.

Toronto Raptors

The Dinos are hard to figure out. They were on two days rest when they visited a struggling, short-handed Boston team on Tuesday and were dominated in their first road loss of the year. Twenty-four hours later, the Raptors visited a struggling, short-handed 76ers team and won 115-109 to snap a three-game skid. Gary Trent Jr. and Fred VanVleet hit back-to-back three-pointers over the final 1:10. VanVleet finished with 32 points, Trent 20 and OG Anunoby 20.

Pascal Siakam got the second of the B2B off and Chris Boucher seemed to be the biggest beneficiary with 17 points and six rebounds in 24 minutes. Perhaps that gets him out of Nick Nurse’s doghouse. Toronto is 1-3 ATS as a home favourite this season.
