Detroit and Brooklyn aren’t that far apart in the East's standings, but they have very different motivations the rest of the season as they meet Wednesday in New York.

The Pistons are going to be sellers ahead of next month’s NBA trade deadline. Centre Andre Drummond is a goner because he can hit unrestricted free agency this summer. The Pistons are going nowhere fast and are holding out for a first-round pick for Drummond – the Raptors have been mentioned as a possible trade partner. Drummond is the NBA’s best rebounder and can block shots, but his game is rather out of date in the modern NBA because Drummond is worthless outside the paint. Derrick Rose also seems likely to be dealt. Detroit has been without Blake Griffin since late December due to a knee surgery and his season is over. Time to rebuild – again – in Motown.

Brooklyn, meanwhile, currently holds down the final playoff spot in the East and making the playoffs is the team’s 100 per =cent focus. The Nets continue to say that Kevin Durant will not play this season, but you never know if they happen to reach the post-season.

NBA Point Spread and Betting Analysis

It’s the third of four regular-season meetings between the teams. The have split two games in Detroit, most recently a 121-111 overtime Nets victory on Saturday. Rose tied it on a layup with 1.9 seconds left in regulation and finished with 27 points. Kyrie Irving missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer but more than made up for it with 45 points. Drummond had 20 points and 21 rebounds. He has an NBA-high eight games with 20 or more points and rebounds this season and 40 in his career, tying Bob Lanier’s Pistons record.

The Nets are 14-6 against the spread in the past 20 meetings.

Detroit Pistons

Detroit lost a third in a row – all by double digits and all at home – on Monday, 115-100 against Cleveland, which entered on a seven-game losing streak and is one of the East’s worst teams. The Cavs had not won by double digits since a 108-87 victory at the Knicks on Nov. 10. Drummond had 15 points and eight rebounds and Reggie Jackson 16 points. Rose (knee soreness), Luke Kennard (knee tendinitis) and Tony Snell (illness) all sat out; Kennard won’t play Wednesday but the other two could. Both Langston Galloway and Thon Maker suffered injuries during the game but returned. The Pistons are 3-8 ATS in their past 11.

Brooklyn Nets

The Nets come off a loss Sunday at the New York Knicks, 110-97. Irving didn’t play because he was so distraught after learning of friend Kobe Bryant’s shocking death. Irving should be back in there Wednesday. Spencer Dinwiddie returned to the starting lineup with Irving out and had 23 points. He was the No. 38 overall pick in the 2014 draft by the Pistons, who clearly didn’t know what they had because Dinwiddie barely played his two years there. He’s having an All-Star calibre season. Centre DeAndre Jordan was out Sunday, his fifth in a row on the bench due to a finger injury. Brooklyn is 1-6 ATS in its past seven.
