Fred VanVleet was the story for the Dinos in Game 1. He became the first Raptor in franchise history to record over 30 points and 10 assists in a playoff game.
The Raptors are heavy favourites to go up 2-0 in their first round playoff series against the Brooklyn Nets when the two sides meet on Wednesday. The Nets showed great resilience in the second half in Game 1, but they still ended up losing by 24 points. Can they keep it within 11 against the defending champs in Game 2?
NBA Point Spread and Betting Analysis
The Raptors were en fuego from the 3-point line in Game 1. They tied their season high and set a new playoff high for the franchise with 22 made treys in a game. Fred VanVleet was the main hot hand for the Dinos as he made eight of his 10 attempts from downtown.
The hot shooting helped the Raptors hit the Over in their third consecutive game. Toronto is averaging 122.5 points over its last four games. This should come as a bit of a relief for the club’s backers. The Drakes were struggling to get their offence going in their first handful of games in the bubble. The Under went 6-0 in their first six games back in action.
The Nets normally defend the 3-point line pretty well. They ranked in the top 10 in opponents’ field goal percentage from beyond the arc (35%) during the regular season.
Brooklyn is 5-0 against the spread in its last five games following an ATS loss. That’s the good news for basketball fans in NYC. The bad news? The Nets are 0-5 against the number in their five games as playoff underdogs.
The early betting action indicates it’s going to be a long day for Brooklyn supporters. About 75 percent of Sports Interaction bettors are backing the Raptors to cover as 11-point faves. As for the total, 60 percent expect the game to go Over the 226.5-point line.
Brooklyn Nets
The Nets were down by 33 points in the first half and clawed back to within 8 midway through the third quarter. Of course, they also were outscored 39-24 in the final frame. Not so good.
Caris LeVert will need a better performance for the Nets to cover in Game 2. The combo guard shot just 4-for-15 from the field in Game 1 although he did finish with a game-high 15 helpers.
Toronto Raptors
Fred VanVleet was the story for the Dinos in Game 1. He became the first Raptor in franchise history to record over 30 points and 10 assists in a playoff game.
