The Brooklyn Nets have been figuring things out without Kyrie Irving in the lineup, winning their last game by 33 points and improving to 8-4 on the season. The same can’t be said about the New Orleans Pelicans, who are in the basement of the Western Conference right now with a 1-11 record. Not to mention the fact that this team is on an eight-game losing skid heading into this one. Will they be able to knock off one of the best teams out in the East or will they just get smoked?

Nets vs. Pelicans NBA Betting Odds

Brooklyn is 5-1 ATS in their last six games out on the road against teams with a home winning percentage less than .400 on the season. They are also 17-5 against the spread in their last 22 matchups against teams with a losing straight up record. Surprisingly, the under has cashed out in ten of their last 11 games when coming into the contest with an ATS win in the previous game.

On the other hand, the Pelicans haven’t been nearly as good. They are 2-7 TS in their past nine when coming into the matchup on just one day of rest and 14-35-2 ATS in their last 51 games played on a Friday. However, the under has cashed out in their last five games when coming into the matchup with a straight up loss in their last time out.

Brooklyn Nets

We are seeing efficiency that is rarely ever replicated right now from Kevin Durant. He is truly playing like an MVP at this stage of the season. He averages 29.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game. His shooting splits are currently 58.5 percent from the field, 40.4 percent from beyond the arc and 82.9 percent from the charity stripe. Him and James Harden have kept their team alive offensively while they await Irving’s return.

The defense has also gotten better for Brooklyn as they are eighth in the NBA in points allowed per game. After blowing the doors off the Orlando Magic a few nights ago, they could do the same to the Pelicans, who are absolutely atrocious right now.

New Orleans Pelicans

The loss of Zion Williamson is severely hurting this team. He is still going to be out for the foreseeable future and New Orleans will need to see other players step up in his absence, which they haven’t. Jonas Valanciunas is averaging 20.0 points, 14.0 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game and shooting the ball over 50 percent from the field, but he’s not getting much help. It seems all of his energy is spent on offense because there is almost no defense being played on this roster. This team is 27th in the league in points allowed per game with 111.9. Going up against the most efficient player in the league right now with Harden right alongside him, the Pelicans best hope here is to cover.
