L.A. has just completed a five-game home set that wasn’t nearly as profitable as they’d had hoped, going 2-3 in the process. The Trail Blazers remain home after the 76ers challenged them on Friday night and earned the spoils.

The host Trail Blazers are perched as -5 favourites on the NBA odds. The over-under is calculated to be 238.5

Lakers vs. Trail Blazers NBA Betting Odds

The Trail Blazers and the Lakers are struggling franchises and not only this year. That might explain the even split over the past six games going back to last season. As for the current campaign, two of the four scheduled matchups have come to pass, with the rivals each winning once. Both were in L.A., meaning the next two, including this one, will be in Portland.

Most of the Lakers’ notable wins, save a few exceptions, have come when playing in the confines of Crypto.com Arena. On the road, they’ve only mustered a 9-14 record. Not that Portland defends home court with terrific efficiency (11-9). For those who pay attention to the over-under numbers, note that the Under has won the day a lot lately with Lakers games. Five of the previous six contests involving L.A. has seen the Under cash in.

The Trail Blazers have tried 2023 for three weeks and probably want their money back. In ten opportunities, Portland has only claimed victory thrice. At the very least, all three wins were earned at home. As for the club’s overall ATS record for the season, it’s a passable 23-21-1. Given they’re 21-24 in the standings, it speaks to the club’s inconsistencies.

Los Angeles Lakers

In the section above we alluded to how Darvin Ham’s unit earned itself some prideful boosting wins on the season. A prime example came on Friday night when the favoured Memphis Grizzlies came to L..A. Frankly, heading into the final period, it looked as though the visitors, led by Ja Morant and bench player Brandon Clarke, were going to protect a reasonable lead and leave the arena with a victory most expected them to claim.

The Lakers had other plans. The hosts won the fourth quarter 41-32. LeBron James (23 points), whom we’re following closely in the countdown to when he attains pole position as the NBA’s all-time scoring leader, was a bit quiet until he was most needed. The real hero ended up being Dennis Schroder. It might not look like it based on his 4-11 shooting night, but 6-7 from the free-throw line and his stunning steal, scoop, and score with seven seconds left was the difference maker, in addition to making for a memorable finish. Lakers win, 122-121

Portland Trail Blazers

There isn’t a “good” moment to muster a pedestrian 37.6 per cent shooting rate, but arguably near the bottom of that list is when hosting one of the NBA’s stronger units like the Philadelphia 76ers. It was an all-around bad night for the Trail Blazers. Damian Lillard can’t do it all by himself, although that appears to be how Portland often gets many of its wins.

At least on Friday Jerami Grant (24 points, five rebounds) was willing to go along with his teammate and make an impact. His team needed it, given that Philly led by 23 at the half. As has often been the case this season, the squad down by tons of points mounted a comeback, but it wasn’t nearly enough, with Portland losing 105-95. Joel Embiid continued to make his case as an MVP candidate with 32 points (including some sensational shots down the stretch) and nine rebounds.
